THE TEACHER

Suggested Reading: Genesis 5-6

The heavens are gloriously ablaze above the Eastern Gate of the old city of Jerusalem.

Key Verse: Genesis 5:24

“And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.”

The way out of the “rat race” is simply to walk with God. Obviously, God wants your company. God wanted to walk with Adam and Eve every evening. Enoch’s time with God was so precious and consistent that, no doubt with his full consent, God took Enoch directly to Heaven without him experiencing death. Enoch’s name means “teacher” in English. He must have shared with others those things he learned in those long walks. Noah was Enoch’s great-grandson and was likely the recipient of Enoch’s sharing. Remember Noah? He is the one who found favour with God. The result was that he knew how to hear from God in building an ark to save his family. You’re on your daily walk with God now as you read His Word and talk with Him in prayer. Listen as God talks with you today.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God as I walk with You now, please fill me with Your Holy Spirit so that I may experience “Walking in the Spirit” (Galatians 5:16). In Jesus Name I pray, Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

Like Enoch, I have children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. I’m always telling them stories. I’m convinced that from his childood, Noah heard what Great-Grandpa learned on those long walks with God. It was probably the reason Noah turned out so well. I had a Sunday School teacher by the name of Miss Johnson when I was 10 & 11. She explained Enoch’s going to Heaven without dying like this: “One day as God and Enoch were walking together, God said, ‘Enoch, we’re much closer to My place than we are to yours, why don’t you just come on home with Me’?” For some reason I’ve never forgotten her story.

Let’s go for a walk,

David

  1. David, thank-you for pointing out the fact that it really is about relationship. God came down in the form of man to relate, to be with us, to teach us, to give us His Holy Spirit and to save us. Likewise, we relate and influence others by sharing the gospel message, living a Godly life and by passing on a sense of peace and security to our children and others to carry on to a next generation. Lord as we continue to walk with you and with others, may your Holy Spirit provide us with love, peace, courage, wisdom and words to say as we continue on this journey. Amen.

  2. The photo of the gate to the beautiful city of God, the city Jesus wept over, stirs my spirit to pray. God yearns for His children to be gathered to Him, and I should be yearning for my family’s salvation with tears and prayers every day. Thank you for your faithfulness David – you and a few other old timers in the ministry are shining lights. I can’t wait to see how the Lord is going to splendidly outfit you for eternity in heaven! I want to see your reward and rejoice with you!

  3. I’m so enjoying your posts, especially the little story today about your teacher, I may use it with my grandchildren…
I’m also enjoying Reynolds pictures, having visited with y’all on two occasions.

  4. Out for an early morning drive with my wife to a friends house to look after their dog while they are away. We witnessed a beautiful sunrise from the escarpment, ushering in this new day. Once we arrived and things were organized, I opened to your daily blog and scripture reading. Once more I was reminded how our days are numbered and the importance of listening and sharing with our Lord and eachother. My Bible opened to Nehemiah 9:6 “You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you”.

  5. Thank you so much David, for these moments helping me

  7. Ths walk with God is so precious,I do not understand the Christian survives today without this close relationship,in order rising early in the morning and having thi intimate relationship with God, everybody is just rushing out of Bed,and get to work, that is why people see the Giant, and not God,my prayer is, being filled with the holy Spirit, and have a close walk with God

Your blog has encouraged me to get back into God’s word more thoroughly, I read “our daily bread” and read the Bible in a study and this gets me back in to the discipline of reading God’s word on a regular basis.
