Key Verse: 2 Kings 18:5

“He trusted in the Lord God of Israel, so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any who were before him.”

Hezekiah stands out as a shining light. He served the Lord completely, destroyed false religion in the land, even to breaking up the image of the serpent that Moses had set up because the people had begun worshipping it as an idol. Read Numbers 21:4-9. Jesus referred to the serpent in John 3:14 when He spoke of being lifted up on the cross. To understand the significance of Jesus’ statement, we may consider 2 Corinthians 5:21, “For He [God] made Him [Jesus] to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
Hezekiah’s own father had been one of the most evil kings of Judah. Somehow, in one generation, God changed the direction of this family and of Judah. God found a young man, 25 when he became king, who made a life-long decision to turn from the wicked ways of his father, live a holy life, and lead his people back to the God of Israel. Our decisions change us for the better or the worse.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, please hear my prayer when I ask for Your help in making the right decisions for my life and for my testimony to others. Thank You that I can change from the past, moving into a glorious future because of Jesus, Your Son and my Saviour and Lord, in whose Name I pray, Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

The basic content of the message that God called me to bring to a gathering of Christian leaders in Jerusalem in 2015 was one of repentance for harbouring any hatred or even disrespect towards Arabs or Jews. Such contempt is sin against our Creator God whom the Bible says is “Love!” Yes, He judges people and nations and He reserves that right for Himself. I’m so very thankful that I am not anyone’s judge! I am to love unconditionally!

Yours for God-inspired decisions which make positive changes in our lives and in the lives of others,

David

  1. Yes, “for God-inspired decisions which make positive changes in our lives and in the lives of others,” we pray–Amen! Wonderful prayer, that fits so well with today’s scripture. God’s truth in His Word provides us with proper direction. Oh, that our hearts may be softened with forgiveness, all the days of our lives. We look to our eternal prize in heaven! Wishing all saints a blessed day in the Lord.

  2. Morning by Morning, Charles Spurgeon
    The Testing of Your Faith

“He led them by a straight way.”
    Psalm 107:7 NIV

“Experiencing great changes, the anxious believer might sometimes ask, “Why am I going through this?” Is this part of God’s plan for me? Is this any way for God to bring me toward heaven?

“Yes, it is. The eclipse of your faith, the darkness of your mind, the fainting of your hope–all these things are just parts of God’s method of making you ripe for the great inheritance you will soon receive. These trials are for the strengthening and the testing of your faith. By these things is the life of your soul maintained.

“Each of these helps you on your way. “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” (Acts 14:22). So learn to “consider it pure joy” (Jas. 1:2).

“O let my trembling soul be still,
And wait thy wise, thy holy will!
I cannot, Lord, thy purpose see,
Yet all is well since ruled by thee.”

    • Charles Stanley has taught this same theme (as have many others) so would agree with you and Charles Spurgeon,Beverlee.
I’ve just petitioned the Lord for healing for Gavin as we all should.
I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s scripture reading.God bless

      Inspired by Psalm 73:24-25
With wise counsel Thou will guide me
‘Til in glory Thou make me free,
For Who in heaven have I but Thee
And with no mortal I choose but with Thee to be.

  3. It does seem amazing how a child can be so different than his/her parent. Maybe he/she sees what transpires in their parent’s life when they behave in certain ways to certain occasions or happenings. I believe God gives us all wisdom, especially when we ask for it, and waits to see what we will do with it.
Also, in today’s study, just saying nothing seems to work wonders.

    Dr. Jim Denison quote:
“We are to defend our faith “with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame” (1 Peter 3:15b–16).
The purpose of our defense is not to prove that we are right and our opponents are wrong—it is to lead them to truth and repentance. It is to show them God’s love and offer them God’s word so they can respond to God’s grace in faith.
Winning debates is less important than winning souls, unless we must win the debate to win the soul.”
May God shower us with blessings this day and always and may we do good and wonderful acts with them.

  4. I came to check if there was an update on Gavin. Thank you Eleanor for letting us know that he has opened his eyes. So nice that his coach and friends came to visit. I’m sure that gave him a boast.
We look forward to hearing the good reports that will follow, as we continue to lift him and the family in prayer.
    God’s blessings on everyone!
