Key Verse: 1 Kings 19:12

After the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.

Here we are brought to a standstill as we catch a glimpse of the stillness there is in God. Let us remember how Jesus slept while His disciples struggled with the storm. Jesus brings a stillness to our lives (Mark 4:35-41). By faith we understand this and we come to rest in Him.
The revelation of God to Elijah was preceded by violent signs. We must understand that if we choose to follow God’s call and engage head on with the enemy of our souls, we will be thrown into the midst of the struggle. This is war! Those who engage in the struggle must do so with total confidence in the assurance of the ultimate victory of our God.This will be our constant experience as we live with inner stillness, while engaged in the struggle.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I’m listening for Your gentle whisper. Father, in spite of the wind, the earthquake, and the fire, I pray that I will hear Your “still small voice.” In the Name of the One who said, “My peace I give unto you,” the Lord of all, Jesus Christ (John 14:27), Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I have great memories from 1978 when Norma-Jean and I saved for quite a while to take our sons to Israel. The girls had come to Israel with us a couple of years before this. The boys’ high school principal, David Craig, told us, “Your sons will learn more in that month than they could ever learn in the same time in high school. You have my permission to take them out of school for a month.” Reynold, Ron and I backpacked from place to place, and Norma-Jean, with a friend’s van, would meet us with supplies from time to time.

On Mt. Carmel we read the chapters we’ve been reading in this blog for the past two days, and we wondered how Elijah could arrive back in Samaria before Ahab got there (18:45-46). Then as we climbed down the east side of Mt. Carmel, we realized that Elijah probably went down the way we were taking, while Ahab, with his horses and chariots, had to go down the gentle slope of the mountain which went in a westerly direction, the opposite direction from Samaria, before he could turn east again.

In a very real sense, I’m travelling every day through the land of the Bible as I read, meditate, pray, and write this blog. After I have finished writing between 4:00 and 6:00 a.m., I am “still.” The telephone never rings. No one knocks at the door, except Jesus. The old hymn says, “Blessed quietness, holy quietness, blest assurance in my soul!” (click here for the lyrics).

Yours for waiting on God in the quiet place,

David

  1. Soaked in scripture, the stillness of the photo, today’s message, David’s memory, and prayer this morning. It all fits together so well-just like Jesus in our lives. Amen? Be still, fellow saints in the Lord. For oh, how He loves us so. His blessings upon you, today. Amen.

For the word of the LORD is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness.

  2. LYNDA’S POST from May 7, 2015 (I hope you don’t mind me copying your post for everyone to read, again, Lynda. It was so well said and needs to be shared!)

Today is National Day of Prayer in the States:

    “Heavenly Father,

We come to You in the Name that is above every name—Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Our hearts cry out to You.

Knowing that You are a prayer-answering, faithful God—the One we trust in times like these—we ask that You renew our spirits, revive our churches, and heal our land.

We repent of our sins and ask for Your grace and power to save us. Hear our cry, oh God, and pour out Your Spirit upon us that we may walk in obedience to Your Word.

We are desperate for Your tender mercies. We are broken and humbled before You.

Forgive us, and in the power of Your great love, lift us up to live in Your righteousness.

We pray for our beloved nation. May we repent and return to You and be a light to the nations. And we pray for our leaders and ask that You give them wisdom and faith to follow You.

Preserve and protect us, for You are our refuge and only hope.

Deliver us from all fears except to fear You, and may we courageously stand in the Truth that sets us free.

We pray with expectant faith and grateful hearts.

    In Jesus’ name, our Savior.

    Amen.”

    • Many amens to all your gracious posts Beverlee. Love all of them and very inspiring, always. So delighted you are sharing any post I send.
Our Gateway Community Church in Hinton is losing its pastor so am asking for prayers to our heavenly Father for a dedicated soul possessing all the fruits of the Spirit to take his place. We live in an isolated community, but beautiful, and we are all very community minded.

Thank u David Mainse for the beautiful hymn, Blessed Quietness.

God did not make you because the world needs another human to add to the 7.7 billion already here. He made you because he has a purpose for you that no one else can fulfill. Dr. Jim Denison

      • You’re an inspiration to us all, Lynda. Wonderful prayer and thank you so much for sharing it with us. God bless you.

    • Thank you Beverlee for sharing Lynda’s prayer. It is as timely today as it was then. I encourage everyone to say it out loud and do it from the bottom of your heart, crying out to God in intercession for Canada. Our beautiful country has allowed too much “idolatry” to come in and we are, as it were, “building asherah poles and golden calves” some of the political decisions being made in this country are, in my opinion, an abomination to the Lord.
Yes God! We need to repent and call on You to forgive us and heal our land . Have mercy oh Lord and turn Canada to the Godly country it once was.

In spite of all the ungodliness around us, we are never hopeless. We may feel alone in our cause (as did Elijah) but God always has a faithful remnant. We are not alone, saints! Fight the good fight!

      • Amen to your prayer for Canada, Luisa! Yes, our political leadership has gravely endangered the morals and ethical fibre of our fine country. We fight with you in prayer for our Canada.

  3. Thank you to everyone who prayed for me yesterday. Last night for the first night in a long time I fell asleep easily and I stayed asleep until morning. I see this a a sign your prayers are being answered and His peace is entering in where my fear was blocking Him before.

This how the enemy works, he uses fear and isolation to put up walls between us and our Lord– in my case, I kept believing I could handle this all on my own, until I finally accepted I needed to reach out to all of you for spiritual backup– Thank you for being there fore me, and know I do pray for all of your concerns, even if I don’t always post the prayer online–

May God continue to bless all of you in your faith journey and I look forward to meeting all of you in the Kingdom to Come.

    • Hi Donna I post d last night for you abd Sah it was late so you probably didn’t see it. I am so glad th Lord is answering our prayers for you.
