A couple at the Nazareth Village in modern-day Nazareth, exhibiting life as it may have been in Bible times.  In today’s reading we learn about what must have been many animated conversations between Isaac and Rebekah. Can you guess what the woman in the picture may be saying? If you have an idea, write it as a comment on this blog. It could be a very serious matter, but we can all appreciate some humour as well.

Key Verse: Genesis 25:21

Now Isaac pleaded with the Lord for his wife, because she was barren; and the Lord granted his plea, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

Isaac and Rebekah had been married for 19 years but had no children. Isaac became desperate in his prayers. He believed the promise and God gave double…twins. Rebekah prayed also and she received a special word from God (25:23). However, the girl with the ambition to water the camels now took things into her own hands and tried to produce God’s plan rather than letting God do it. Human effort is necessary, but to revert to our own resources alone, after having prayed and received God’s provision, may not change the final outcome, and will cause heartache along the way.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Father God, above all I desire Your will as expressed in Your promises. Grant me the grace to wait on You, making my time and effort available to You, and at the same time to know that You are working all things according to Your will. Like Isaac, I plead fervently with You in prayer. Thank You for hearing and answering my prayer. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

Over the years in the service of Christ, I’ve done my best to plan and work for the fulfillment of God’s purpose as revealed in His Word. Twice, during the time I served as Chairman and President of Crossroads Christian Communications, I pushed initiatives through the Board of Directors which a majority favoured, but not all. Both times proved to be mistakes. I learned to ask the Directors to take the issue home, pray fervently, and come back to the next meeting to vote again. If we still could not agree unanimously, we dropped the matter or changed course. Like Rebekah, I’m a “Get it done” person. God has used this drive, but I must be careful. The Crossroads Directors approved the sponsorship of this daily blog. Granted, it was not a huge and costly outreach like our participation in four World Expositions (all unanimously approved), but it illustrates the fact that unity brings the blessing of God on our lives and ministry decisions.

In Christ’s love and service,

David

P.S. With unity we can see the fulfillment of big and little visions. As a result of having a Christian Witness at four World Expos, over 100,000 precious people registered first-time decisions for Christ at our pavilions in Vancouver, Brisbane, Seville, and Hanover! Below is a photo of our first such effort…Pavilion of Promise at Expo ’86 in Vancouver.

  1. Thanks to the Crosdroads Directors who approved this blog. It’s so well done and so helpful.
Let’s keep praying for the rescue of the boy’s soccer team in Thailand. Just saw news that a fifth boy is out.

  2. Rebekah to Isaac: you want me to help dig wells? Come on Isaac! It’s hot and I’m tired. I have enough to do keeping all of our household running smoothly. I think I’ll take a soothing bath until you come to your senses. Love you, my dear!!

  3. I’m praying too for a successful rescue of all the boys in Thialand with no more casualties. In Jesus’ name.
I’m thankful to Crossroads for this blog as well as Ron and Ann for their effort.God bless

  4. To me the lady looks like she’s saying to the man, “where did u get this water?”.

So praying for the safe rescue of the remaining five in the cave. Have a blessed day all saints.

  5. Thank You Lord for successfully bringing another child to the surface together with the rescue team. They, too, I.e. The Rescuers, need and deserve our earnest prayers and thanks as well as the victims of this tragedy.

I also pray for this blog and all producers, present and past. I appreciate it so much!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

    Blessings

  6. Praying also for the rescue of the Thai boys, coach and rescuers. Amazing what a team effort this is and the boys are 2 and a half miles inside this cave. Blessings!

  7. What a blessing those Expositions were…so many lives saved by Grace for the Glory of God. Yes, the Word tells us “to wait upon the Lord” ….but so often we do our own thing before waiting for His direction. Thank You Lord for Your faithfulness!!!

Rebekah…don’t just sit there! Do something! its been 10 ten years!! Make me pregnant!!!

  8. Everywhere I went today people were expressing their concern about the boys in the cave. I pray that God will open the eyes of the families/people that many, many, Christian people were praying (it is a highly Buddhist country). May God open their eyes to understand Who He Really Is. Amen

  9. Am not able to access July 10th even when I went to the Vlog which is July 10th, it puts me back to July 9th bog. hopefully it will be corrected, thank you

    • Me too! I went to the video version (at the top of the page) & followed the link (100huntleyst/100words) & watched David’s vlog. It was good to see & hear David again!
Thinking about Jacob’s deceit in this era of identity confusion & deception (you are whatever you self-identify as?!)… Very relevant. People need to meet the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, who knows us as we are. So glad He loves us and has good plans for rach of us!
Please, Lord God, help us to know You more and follow the plans You have for us. Bring so many to You today, Lord, open their eyes and show them that You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life. This is Your world and we ask You to have your way in it. In Jesus’s forever-great name, amen

  10. Dear Lord-please help this woman conceive!! She’s driving me crazy with her nagging!!!

Praying that the Thai – and we all- will recognize God’s miraculous hand in the amazing rescue of these young guys! May they now be delivered from their spiritual imprisonment.
