A boat trip down Egypt’s Nile River is one of the best ways to see Egypt. Today’s reading mentions “The river of Egypt.”

Key Verses: Amos 9:9

For surely I will command,

And will sift the house of Israel among all nations,

As grain is sifted in a sieve;

Yet not the smallest grain shall fall to the ground.

God pays attention to “the smallest grain.” Nothing escapes His attention! It is impossible that God could be untrue to His pure and holy character. God has provided a substitutionary payment for the sin of the entire human race…past, present and future…by the death of His sinless Son, and our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Sin violates God’s holiness, but His justice has been satisfied through Jesus, and we are made right before God when we repent and ask for His forgiveness.

Amos ends his book with five promises from God! God heals sick people and nations. God will (1) “Raise up,” (2) “Repair,” (3) “Rebuild,” (4) give the right to “Possess,” and (5) “Bring back the captives.” We all love happy endings! Thank You God, and thank you, Amos!!!

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I confess my 24/7 need for a constant attitude of repentance. As John wrote, “If we [ I ] say that we [ I ] have [present tense] no sin, we [ I ] deceive ourselves [myself] and the truth is not in us [me]” (1 John 1:8). Yes, Lord Jesus, I thank You for Your promise of salvation. I pray that prayer that You, Lord Jesus, guaranteed would justify me in Your holy Presence, “God be merciful to me, a sinner” (Luke 18:9-14). Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

The famous actor, Mickey Rooney, died at 93. I want to watch some old movies of Mickey from the late 1930’s and 1940’s, because I think he’ll look like that now in Heaven, and I want to recognize him when, by God’s grace, I join him. The last time I saw Mickey was in Lakeland, Florida. He was in his late eighties then. He was singing, playing the piano, and even dancing a two step. I purchased a memento picture album, and Norma-Jean and I got in the lineup for his signature. Just before he signed, he looked up and peered intently at me through eyes which were failing, and said, “Is that you, David?” We had a happy reunion. Back in the late 1970’s Mickey was performing live on stage at a Toronto theatre. In the wee hours of the night he could not sleep. He turned on TV, watched a 100 Huntley Street rerun show, called our prayer line, and one of our prayer partners led him to Christ. I found out the next day when he was being interviewed on a live talk show, and he told this story. He said…

“There was this guy, Mainse, brains, or something, talking about Jesus. His guest was an Indian Chief [Bruce Thum], who held up his five fingers on his right hand and explained the word grace with an acrostic. The Chief said, [here Mickey held up his right hand with his thumb and 4 fingers extended] ‘GRACE means God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense!’ I prayed the prayer, and I know God has given me His grace.”

That afternoon I found out where Mickey was staying and called him, asking if I could come to see him. He joyfully welcomed me and we became friends. Every time he was anywhere near Toronto, we would get together for prayer and a great visit. Mickey had been married and divorced at least seven times when I met him. His first 40 years in showbiz were the hardest. The last 30-35 years of his life were difficult at times, but God continued to give Mickey G-R-A-C-E!!! I’ll see you soon my friend!

Yours as a participant in God’s wonderful, marvellous, matchless GRACE,

David

P.S. I suggest showing one of Mickey’s old movies to children and grandchildren. Then open the blog and click here for a preview of one of our animated productions, produced by Bruce Stacey, where Mickey Rooney (his personality, input and voice) portrayed the character of “Bullseye: The Rock that Bopped Goliath.” The episode is called “Splat Ball Square Off.” Check out our other GodRocks children’s productions (where the rocks and stones of the Bible come to life). Mickey Rooney…now with the Lord!

  1. I never liked Mickey Rooney as I was growing up, not realizing that we are all sinners and that Jesus loved him. Now that I’ve become a Christian I love the man in Jesus name and understand now that we didn’t all have Christian upbringings so it takes time for knowledge and understanding to sink in.
Please pray for the comfort of parents and friends of the hockey boys killed in the Sask. vehicle accident thru their knowing our heavenly Father or coming to Him.
Have a blessed Sunday and life fellow followers of the Christian faith.

    • We prayed corporately for that hockey team and their loved ones today in church.(I just realized no one prayed for the driver of the semi involved.)He will need much prayer no matter who was at fault.Either the stop sign was missing or someone missed it.
I went to Sunday school with neighbours as a small child but had no other Christian influences until I discovered some Christian stations on FTA TV mostly on Galagy 19 satellite,a hobby I had.Yada, yada, yada, then a neighbour got me going to ‘his’ church where I am the newest deacon.Nuff said.
I was barely too young to know about Mickey’s private life and always liked his movies.I have that pic of him in my files.I’m guessing Huntley Street informed him that anyone can be forgiven for their sins which resulted in his phone call.I wonder:”Is there anyone to preach to in heaven?”Thanks Lynda, blessings

    • Lynda,I wonder what we would have thought of ‘Saul’?We all have an electronic stone in our hand often too ready to throw it.I mean this in a collective sense.
I was thinking of Mr Trump re Saul.People seem to think that he should be perfect if he’s now a Christian and that is a false picture the world has of us.We are in a school/battleground where we are (often) unknowingly at war yet still learning. We need to educate the world.God bless
      The World Forgot

The world forgot what is right
For we were supposed to teach them,
By sharing with them the light
But we could not reach them.

Not long ago we ‘were’ them
      Until we found the light He gives;
The One the world would condemn,
Then died to show He lives.

They don’t want to know our ways
For they think their ways suit them best,
But we know how it dismays
      When one begins the quest.

We must begin to reach out
Or we may loose them all to sin,
But we must defeat the doubt,
      To plant the seed within.

      Using words at their command
Will allow His word to imbed,
      Thus they can then understand
How He rose from the dead.

Sorry,my pastor dropped in just as I was about to post this and stayed to discuss some events stressing to him.He is one of my mentors but we also confide in each other….So i am just posting this now.God bless

        • Yes thank you for the poem William. Will pray for the truck driver, we had prayer in church for all the rest as well. God bless all who use this blog. Ekeanor M.

      • In agreement with you Bill up to a point. I no longer expect Christians to be perfect since seeing the light of Jesus.
You have such a gift for putting your point into poetry – lovely and I share them with others. Don’t quit.
My son went to school in Alberta with a Billy Marshall. Don’t suppose you’d be he? God bless all saints and thanks to all for the many, many prayers to our heavenly Father. To God be the glory. Over $4M has been raise for all the dear souls who will need financial assistance in this devastating time of many needs.

        • Sorry,Lynda, never been there. For just over a year I wrote poems (they came to me like dictation.),posted them on FB and never signed them. One day FB showed 5-6 “Bill Marshall’s”,one is a professional “authour/poet” in Ct,thus I added my name.Somewhere in that time a friend told me I should save them so I began to do so.She also convinced me to save the short ones too as benedictions.
A little over a year ago a lady in Florida thought her pastor was me,lol. She somehow found my poems on FB and assumed it was him.I then added my initials as well, lol,to my poems.I have to point out what I have told the ladies in some grieving sites (That is where I was led, reluctantly and I have many grief poems.) and that is that “I am only His pen.”I have been asked in those sites several times to publish them but I never felt right.I’ve said too much already. Thanks again.God bless
PS:Many times I can’t find the right words to say as if I’m blocked, but a poem will come to mind…

  2. I wonder what the reunion was like in heaven between David and Mickey!

I agree with you in prayer Lynda…May our Heavenly Father comfort and guide all affected by the terrible tragedy in Sask.

  3. May God bring good out of that terrible tragedy…Lord God, we ask you to comfort all the families & friends of those killed & hurt in that crash. Turn people’s eyes & hearts to You, dear Lord. Break through all the obstacles & show people You hear their prayers; You are calling people to Yourself. Bless all the pastors & preachers today; anoint them & give them Your words to bring people to You for salvation, healing, comfort, courage & wisdom. Thank You, Lord God, that You love people & Your will for us is 100% good. May Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven, we ask in Jesus’s pure & holy name, amen

  4. Agreeing in prayer with all the saints on the blog for the families who have lost loved ones, the community who has lost friends, and those struggling in the hospital after the devastating accident in Saskatchewan. I think of one young hockey player, in particular, who was paralyzed from the waist down. For the women who have lost husbands, fathers who have lost sons, and sisters who have lost brothers–we just cannot imagine your pain sorrow and agony. We call for you to be brought ever closer to God as your strength and comfort. Your beloved are at rest in heaven in the ever loving Arms of their Saviour Jesus Christ, and the whole world is praying for you, now.

  5. Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend, please wrap your arms around the semi truck driver, as well as all the hockey team family. You, Jesus understand tragedy, loss and regret, and the “if only”. Support and comfort each one.

  6. Beautiful colors in today’s photo landscape, thank you for it Reynold!!

  10. Although I am posting the day after we also prayed as a church for all those bereaved and affected by the terrible tragedy in Saskatchewan. I can’t imagine the grief and loss. What potential has been lost. Was also praying for some young people in our family who are being deceived. Lord we pray for all these today when the reality is setting in and for the truck driver as well. Lord help them to get through this in Jesus Name.
