LIMITING THE HOLY ONE

Today’s Reading: Psalms 78

Click scripture link to read online or HERE to listen online (then click the symbol of the audio speaker above the scripture portion).

A teacher brings a class of boys to visit the En Gedi Nature Reserve and loses control, as they jump fully clothed into the water! Here David took refuge from Saul. Perhaps David refreshed himself in this very waterfall. In the Jewish schools of Israel, the teachers do as our key verse says. In Israel the students are called Talmudim (translation = disciples).

Key Verse: Psalm 78:4, 41

We will not hide them from their children,

Telling to the generation to come the praises of the Lord,

And His strength and His wonderful works that He has done…

Yes, again and again they tempted God,

And limited the Holy One of Israel.

Asaph, The senior worship leader of Israel, composed this beautiful poetry and put it to music. Our reading for today puts emphasis on the responsibility we must carry in making sure that the children, the next generation, know the stories of God’s faithfulness. We must not neglect to also point out the people’s unfaithfulness. This teaching method has often inspired the next generation to rise above the older generation’s level of knowledge to experience God in new and powerful ways. Words put to music often have a greater impact on our lives than words alone.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, You work within human free will because You made us in Your image and likeness. I pray that I may not limit You by my failure to communicate Your stories I read in Your Word. May I also teach the next generation by recounting, in an effective manner, the experiences of my life. In the Name of the One who, at 12 years of age, listened to the teachers and asked them questions, Jesus of Nazareth. Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I committed to publishing dozens of magazines back in the 70’s and early 80’s encouraging the reading of the Bible over two years. Ron has taken us down memory lane by inserting below some pages from an old “New Direction” magazine from 1981, including today’s reading from the Psalms. Between these “New Direction” magazines and the beginning of this blog, we’ve published ten books with the same purpose. Unfortunately, they are out of print and unavailable. All the commentaries were fresh bread, and were not copied from the many previous trips through the Scriptures. Now, 100words.ca is prepared just for you, my blog buddies!

Thanks for joining me faithfully,

David

  5. Dear Ron: Thanks you and Ann for continuing this blog, it is such a help to me and I love your father’s input. It was lovely to see Bob MacDougall’s picture and comments, I always enjoyed seeing and listening to him on 100 Huntley ST. I am sure your father and him will be having a great reunion up in Heaven. I also prayer for your mom and all your family for strength daily. The lesson today about passing God’s Works down to children, was something that your dad did and is continuing through you and the rest of his family. It is an encouragement to all of us to do this as well, I do pray for all of mine everyday but speaking to them face to face is better. Blessings to all, Eleanor M.

  6. Thanks you for the blog. It is wonderful to read God’s Word and have the beautiful pictures and comments to go with them. I look forward to this Godly instruction every day. May God bless all the workers and send out more! In Jesus’s great and compassionate name, amen

  7. David sure was led (or they led to him?) to so many wonderful Christian friends,Bob MacDougal being one.It seemed,as with David, when he opened his mouth almost as if the holy Spirit was speaking…and surely guiding them.
This is what I wanted to share…as it appears on my FB timeline.I hope you too are blessed:

God blessed me with this song.
I had just finished reading my scripture in 100 Words and,as I bent to put a piece of wood in my stove,a name came clearly to my mind: “Abalu” (I thought ‘what a beautiful name’.)so I googled it and finally found this video.I knew I was being blessed and the song proved it.Thank you Pst.Abalu.Now back to the blog portion of my devotions.

I very often write poems, save them and forget them. These are as they appear in my 10th file…just in case Ron might want to save them.

Inspired by a poem written for Pst.David
Mainse by his dad.Written in about 10 min.
    Dad

To you loving sir,may these thoughts ascend,
To your home of life without end,
Know always how my love still grows
Carried to you as heaven’s wind blows,
    For you set for me to follow true;
To serve my entire life through
And let no selfish thought intrude
Nor words from my lips be rude,
But instead let righteous deeds be my treasure
With forgiveness always in good measure,
    For those are but some of your bequeath;
My treasure since your last breath.
    for David,God bless

Blessed were your parents on your day of birth,
For you were to them God’s great gift,
But your gift back to God showed your worth

For David Mainse on his 81st birthday.

    • All of the above distracted me and I forgot this little poem inspired by the same scripture at the top of the picture of the magazine:
      Inspired by Psalm 73:24-25
With wise counsel Thou will guide me
‘Til in glory Thou make me free,
For Who in heaven have I but Thee
And with no mortal I choose but with Thee to be.

  8. My heart is filled with praise for our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Thankful that David is with Him, rejoicing in His presence.
I, too have used all of the Bible reading guides that were published. I have kept “Day unto Day” and “Follow Me”. Thank you.

  9. So wonderful to see Father Bob’s picture. I remember hearing David Mainse say “Anybody who is seeking the Lord in spirit and in truth is my brother in Christ” when a question about different denominations came up. He was a true visionary and lived the words of Jesus from John 17:21; that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. (ESV)

  10. I pray God’s continued blessings and comfort to you Ron and Ann; in particular your Mom Norma-Jean and all the Mainse family!!

Thank you for being faithful in continuing to present to us daily!! Bob McDougall was surely a man of God, as was your Dad, David Mainse!!

  11. Please pray for Denis (son-in-law) had seizure today (mini stroke). Has wife & 4 kids. In Alberta & is 50. Raised Catholic A great family man.

You know everything about his body Lord! We pray that You will reveal Yourself to him; that Denis will see you and ask You to come into his heart to heal him completely!
The song “Ain’t it just like the Lord! To find a way when there was none!”
Lord Denis has a beloved wife and 4 children and they need their husband and father to be with them for many years to come! Lord we kneel before You and ask that You will heal Denis completely, make his body even stronger! Reveal Your unconditional love to him; may Denis ask You Lord to come into his heart!
We bring this prayer to You dear Lord God and we thank You for complete healing of every aspect of Denis’ life! Thank you In Jesus Name we pray amen amen amen!

  12. Thank you Bill for your posting of the song of Pastor Abalu on You Tube. Surely it was a prompting from God to search it out. I really loved it! His voice and all the harmonies were wonderful. I read the scripture verse in Zechariah that he said inspired him to write this piece and I could see where this could be so.
