LORD, REVEAL YOUR GLORY!

Today’s Reading: 1 Samuel 3-4

The Ark of the Covenant, as depicted in a replica of the Old Testament Tabernacle at Timna Park in Israel. We read today how the sons of Eli carried the Ark into battle where it was captured by Israel’s enemies.

Key Verse: 1 Samuel 3:10

Now the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel answered, “Speak, for Your servant hears.”

The first verse of our reading is a sad commentary on the spiritual life of Israel. “Rare” and “no widespread revelation” says it all. But God spoke to Samuel and Eli was knowledgeable enough to recognize that God wanted someone to listen to Him. God is a communicating God, but are we listening? It’s hard to hear that “still, small voice” (1 Kings 19:12) in the midst of the hustle and bustle of life. This is one of the main reasons why getting up early each day to wait on God is so very important.

God cut Eli’s family off from His blessing because, as our reading informs us, Eli did not restrain his sons from their vile behaviour. This resulted in the tragic capture of the Ark by the enemies of Israel, the death of Eli’s sons, and Eli himself. Most tragic of all was the name of Eli’s grandson, “Ichabod,” meaning that the glory of God had departed from Israel. In our churches, let us reverse the decline and bring God’s glory in Jesus Christ into sharp focus. John said of Jesus, “We beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14b).

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, I take time right now to spend listening for Your voice. In the quietness of this moment, I wait on You. I meditate on the revelation of Your glory! Hallelujah! Grant that I may help to make that revelation widespread throughout the whole world. Please keep me from being so selfish as to keep that revelation to myself. In Your empowering Name I pray, Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

Eli was the ripe old age of 98 when he died. I was thinking of Eli’s passing this past week. If I live as long as Eli, I’ve got 18 years to go. Whatever time I may have left, I want to serve God faithfully. I want to serve you, dear blog readers. I want to serve the leaders of the Crossroads Family of Ministries. I’m absolutely sure that God did not allow me to live this long in order that I may sit around and twiddle my thumbs! At my age Winston Churchill was serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. I’m asking for advice from you who read my blog. What do you think I should spend my remaining days in doing? Please pray for me and ask God to give you a word for me!

Yours for the glory of God, even in humour,

David

P.S. I’m thankful that, unlike Eli’s sons, my sons are serving God well. The eldest, David Reynold, is a missionary in Africa, and along with his wife, Kathy, leads a ministry called “World Embrace.” He is our blog photographer.  My youngest son, Ronald Wesley, is now, along with his wife, Ann, leading a marriage and family enrichment ministry called “Heart to Heart.” Ron did a series of “Flashback” segments which were released on 100 Huntley Street during the 10,000th episode season (click here for a Flashback to 1978 and here for one from 1981).  Ron and Ann work with me daily on this blog.

  1. Lord I appreciate this 100 word blog! It fills a need in my life and I believe it also helps millions of others around the world! Lord I ask that You will continue to bless David Mainse and his entire family and give them energy, peace, wisdom, a spirit of laughter, a spirit of sharing the Gospel with many readers, a spirit of sharing some fond memories from the past, a spirit of daily doing this blog, and we thank you Lord for giving David Mainse good health and again, Lord, we thank You for Scripture which tells the whole story!
JESUS LOVES ME, THIS I KNOW,
FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO,

  2. Amen to all that Sah said. Thank you David and Ron and Ann for this blog. Each day it provides inspiration, focus and direction.

  3. Sah and Eleanor C’s thought is also mine. Hold the course. If there are other things to which God inspires you, the blog is a little light in the dark world and it is there everyday. I don’t read it everyday. Actually, it has been about a week since I last read it, but the timing seems good.

  4. This the 1st or second reading of the morning which is rich in scripture prayer and, day to day life I thank you Reverend David Mainse. I will tell people who are looking for ways to connect with God read your blog. This is on the prayer line on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Thank You for this ministry God bless you and your family.

  5. Good morning brother David. Perhaps rest is the best thing at this time… Ron has been doing the video version for you for some time now. Is this because you’ve been under the weather? As I recall some months ago CrossRoads bequeathed upon you an Ambassadorship. That is: to go out much the same as Paul of Tarsis – to reach out to the many Churches in touch with “100 Huntley”
Get your health in order and fulfill your calling… God Bless

Blessings brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus – Amen!

    • with all due respect:
there have been many changes for David Mainse and his wife! They have moved to be closer to family! We don’t read this happening because Mr. Mainse does his 100 words daily while life is changing around him! I am so thankful that in spite of his health issues he is still moving on a daily basis to serve the Lord by putting out this blog! I believe and thank God that his health is very good considering where he was a few months back. I believe David Mainse is an excellent Ambassador for proclaiming the Gospel to the world! I believe he has been doing this task for decades!
I am thankful for all the technology we have today and that Crossroads can make it work to proceed with sharing the love of Jesus Christ around the world!
I appreciate David’s story of him when he was a young boy; losing his mother at an early age, God blessed him with a very Godly earthly father!
      I believe God has helped and David will acknowledge that indeed God has helped him get his health in order and fulfill his calling;
David Maisne has said many times that for the Grace of our Lord God he would not be here nor would this blog be working!
again I am saying that I appreciate this blog; God saw fit to speak to David Mainse about producing this blog; his family supports it daily and also helps produce this blog.
I enjoy the video and seeing Ron; I enjoy the whole family! I’ve watched the program for years!
I PRAISE AND THANK THE LORD FOR LEADING 100 Huntley Street to speak the words of unconditional love to all the people throughout the world! WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW IS LOVE, SWEET LOVE, THAT’S THE ONLY THING THAT THERE’S NOT TO PLENTY OFF, WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW IS LOVE, SWEET LOVE……that LOVE is Jesus Christ,
another song that comes to mind is ‘IT IS NO SECRET’
      BLESSINGS TO ALL

  6. …encourage you to keep listening and doing….love following your ministry and blog daily….inspiring and growing in HIM…thank you!!…and thank you Blog participants:)

  7. David this morning you ask for advice with regards to what you should do going forward…because you are 80 years old…well, if we examine at what you are doing with this blog and the effect it has on many people’s lives, it becomes self evident.
KEEP ON, keeping on. God will make it known when He wants you for something else…..certainly it is not from someone like me , who has also reached your mature age and is completing his term as a church elder and is staring to the future…..thinking is that all there is? No, keep your eyes upon Jesus and know that the race is not over and I think God will give you the energy to sprint to the finish line.
May God bless you and keep you in the center of His will.

  8. Pastor David,
Thank you for leading us into deeper life in Christ. You are showing us how to keep on living for God by spending time in His Word and waiting on Him. Keep on going and God will keep opening doors for you, and for all His people, to follow and serve. Jesus is alive forevermore!
Please, Lord God, help us all to remain in You, and You in us, so we can know You more and do what pleases You. Be glorified and magnified in all Your people, and give us boldness and courage and wisdom and compassion, so we can share Your Gospel clearly today. Bless all the Mainse family, all the Gospel workers, and please send out more today. And thank You for all You’ve done, all You’re doing, and all You will do, forever! In Jesus’ great name, amen

  9. I have shared 100words.ca with a believer in Pakistan who is now sharing it with her home bible study group. She is so thankful for having a steady bible study program through this site. She told me that they especially love the photos that your son has taken as it gives them a better insight into the land and culture of the bible.
I have been following 100words.ca for almost 2 years now. Thank you for your faithfulness in providing this for us to follow. I share it with others with the hope that they too will follow and learn.
My mother is now 80 years old and still works part-time at a local grocery store. I would not have it any other way for her as she loves it and they love having her there.

  10. Pastor David, I do not feel that I should advise a dedicated servant like you, but this just came to me. I would like to see you appear on 100 Huntley St. more often or once in a while if your health permits as you have a lot of wisdom to share to all ages. Maybe have some of the older Pastors appear with you and get their input. I say this as I feel to restore the unity in our family and visit my neighbors as the Lord gave me this verse Sunday in church, ” And I will restore to you the years that the locust has eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.”(Joel 2:25). I realize you are trying to pass the torch to the younger generation which needs to happen too but we oldies get inspired and energized when we see our age carrying on. I say this with fear and trembling and only accept it as it agrees with your spirit. Oh yes, maybe you could answer the phones once in a while in the prayer center. You do have a big task right now with 100words.ca. God bless you.

  11. Thank you pastor for your faithfullness ,this has kept me in Gods word.If the body is week deep prayer can still be Gods great tool.Blessings pastor!!

  12. Trust in The Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths. This is my mom’s favourite verse and though she has Alzhiemers, she can still recite it to me. I thought I would share it assured that you know it well. You have and do encourage me each day with your writing. Thank you, may The Lord continue to strengthen you and direct your paths. In Jesus’ name
PS, my husband and I were blessed to attend date night in February, which I learned about through this blog. (Heart to heart ministries) We are already looking forward to next year.

  13. Send us a new photo or video, David, every once in awhile. I agree with Ger, to see you on 100 Huntley Street, now and then, is such a blessing. Crossroads might want to consider playing short favourite re-runs of you at the end of their shows. We continue to pray for healing from your cancer battle. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the on-going blog which proclaims the Word, Truth, Way and Life of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ! To Him be all the glory and praise!! Amen!! Blessings fellow saints in the Lord!!

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. Jn 1:14 ESV

    • Agreeing with you Beverlee. Appearing on Huntley Street – see previous programs- continue to do all humanly possible to maintain your health. It is NOT so much what you need to do…just be yourself. Let your light continue to shine in words of inspiration, encouragement…not so much ‘doing’ but just ‘being’ yourself..let the light shine through you and God will do the rest…in the middle of
“wrestle” is the word ‘REST’…and God will continue to use your life. In your spare time, write a autobiography that God will use to inspire
others – the world…Prayers for you – for strength and ongoing healing.

      • Sanuel I like that you took rest out of wrestle. I am sure Pastor David will appreciate this as well.
I must say it would be wonderful to see more of you on 100 Huntley St Pastor David , so I am praying that The Lord will strengthen you for whatever He has in store for you. You and your family have been such a Blessings and a wonderful example to all of us. Eleanor M.

  16. The words I get Pastor David is “grow where you are panted, for I have you in the Palm of my hand, I rejoice in you my son, rest in my love, as you reach out to others through My Word, you are reaching into Me: My love for you is Great, and always will be, rest in My love”

Lord Jesus I pray for Your strength to fill the very inner core of Pastor David; refresh and renew his blood-flow; anoint him with the oil of Joy, the anointing oil to flow from the top of his head, all the way down to the tips of his toes. Thank you Jesus, I pray this in Your Holy Name, Amen!

Lord I thank you for Pastor David’s family and for Norma-Jean as she ministers unto her husband; and for each member of their family, in each of their lives. Amen!

  17. When reading these scriptures about Samuel; I think, what a difficult thing his Mother was able to do: Even though I realize in was a commitment she made, but what a great sacrifice. But then I think, what a great sacrifice Our Father in heaven made; because of His great love for the world, for us!!
“Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name”!! Amen!!

    • Yes Irene: amen, amen and amen! We are all blessed with the best prayer of all prayers

Our Father who art in Heaven, Hallowed by Thy Name, They Kingdom come, Thy Will be done on earth as it is in Heaven, Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil for Thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory,, forever and ever AMEN

  18. Thank you Mr. Mainse for helping to take s through the entire Bible. Helps me understand God’s word so much better, especially the Old Testament. Teaching us and praying for us is the best thing you can do. I thank God and pray that you are able to continue to serve in this way.
    God Bless!!
