ALIVE TO GOD

Today’s Reading: Romans 7

Click scripture link to read online or HERE to listen online (then click the symbol of the audio speaker above the scripture portion on the right-hand side).

The Arch of Titus is a first-century honorific arch located on the Via Sacra in Rome, just to the southeast of the Roman Forum. It was constructed in 82 AD by the Roman Emperor Domitian, shortly after the death of his older brother Titus, to commemorate Titus’ victories, including the Siege of Jerusalem in 70 AD. The Arch of Titus has provided the general model for many of the triumphal arches erected since the 16th century. Perhaps most famously, it is the inspiration for the 1806 Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France, completed in 1836.

Key Verse: Romans 7:24-25a

O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God–through Jesus Christ our Lord!

Jesus said in Matthew 26:41, “Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Yesterday’s blog dealt with the word “reckon,” which means “consider it a fact” that we who believe are crucified, dead and buried with Christ. Therefore, the old sin life has no power over us. There’s a horror story here regarding that “body of death” referred to in our key verse. The Romans would, from time to time, chain a dead rotting body to a living prisoner. Imagine carrying that around. The sin life is one of unbearable stench and disease. Who is our Deliverer from sin…from this “body of death”? The answer is found in verse 25. He is “Jesus Christ our Lord!” He lived a pure and holy life, and He lives within the believer. Therefore, we have all we need to be free from sin as long as we surrender our all 24/7!!! Amen!

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Dear Lord, help me to remember Galatians 2:20 each morning…”I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith in the Son of God, who loves me and gave Himself for me.” Please Lord, give me the grace and the consistency to keep quoting (mostly under my breath) and believing 100% this powerful motivator for holy living, confessing it as fact! Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

My son, David Reynold, is a professional photographer. His award-winning photography blesses us each day here on 100words.ca. When he was a young boy and had done something worthy of punishment, I would send him to his room to await my arrival. I’d find him on his knees, begging God to make him a good boy, and to help him to not do the wrong thing ever again. One time, I noticed that he looked at me with one eye, the other covered with his hand, in order to see how I was reacting to his prayer. When I smiled, he knew he had disarmed me. I would emphasize the error of his ways and forgive him as he and I both knew God had already done. In recent years he has led amazing world missions projects, raising millions of dollars for missions, and overseeing those projects on the ground. He and his wife Kathy are currently leading a unique God-birthed initiative in Uganda. Thanks David Reynold Mainse for helping your Dad make this blog unique among blogs by your excellent photography. I love you.

Yours for a life lived in abandon to God,

David

P.S. For some reason I feel compelled to put the pictures below on the blog. Three days after the birth of our great-granddaughter, Jadice Elizabeth Patterson (she’s 4 now), my other son, Ron (the grandpa), took a picture of her in the same pose as her 3-D ultrasound (taken at 30 weeks gestation). I can’t understand how pro-choice people, many of them people of good will, could approve of the one baby being ripped apart in the womb, yet so caring and nourishing toward the newborn. Canada has absolutely no laws protecting the life on the left (see photo below). This is truly sad and just plain evil! The sin in our human hearts must break the heart of God.

Jadice Patterson today!

  1. Great scripture, video, and photos, this morning, David. Praying for miracles and wishing all saints a blessed day, in our Lord.

You have given a banner to those who fear You, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah

  2. David I really enjoy your bible study I hope when we are done that we start it again AS I stated in Deuteronomy it would be nice if there was commentary.

  3. I often ask the Father in Yeshua’s name to command His angels to take charge over the entire Mainze family. When I see the 3d, the new born and the little lady she is today I am so grateful that you are part of my life. I too do not understand how the medical profession can still, (with the tech. at hand) kill these beautiful babies. Babies with such potential. It is EVIL, there is no other explanation and it breaks my heart. ????

  4. Yes, what a darling little girl! Yes. I agree with you David, abortion is plain evil and we need to pray for our government in that regard. The Lord continue to bless Reynold and Kathy, Ron and Ann for their dedication and ministry. Please pray for us as we consider engaging another pastor, this one retired and mainly self supporting. We need a move of God and breakthrough in this community. God bless you saints today. I read all of your posts and prayers and they bless me too. Ger

  5. Your granddaughter is beautiful,David. There are many people waiting to adopt. My son is adopted and his mom chose to give him life where she knew he was wanted.(She is a relative of my exwife.)
I started writing poetry right after I surrendered in April 2011.I did not choose to.This is one that sure belongs here as well as the one below it.(Feel free to use any of ‘my’ poems,David.):

    WHY Mommy?

Why did you kill me mommy?
Why do you seek to be defiled?
Why was I killed inside your tummy?
Why could I not be your child?

Why do you call sex ‘making love’?
Why is that lie portrayed to be true?
Why do you hate gifts from above?
Why do you freely do what you do?

Why is sex like shaking hands?
Why can’t you control your lust?
Why do devils from foreign lands
Give us laws while stealing our trust?

In the summer of 2014,Canada’s final
stronghold on abortion was about to fall
after activists from ‘foreign lands’ (the US)
Were due to speak in Charlottetown.

Control (I believe this to be true.)

Satan blends his thoughts with yours,
You think they came from you,
For his goal is to close all doors,
    To control everything you do.

He starts this at an early age,
His lies make you the liar
And when you are in a rage,
Is when you fuel his hellfire.

But just like Satan who sneaks in,
There is Another who is true,
For He knows well about sin
And what Satan wants with you.

He will only enter if invited,
A slave is not His goal,
He seeks a fire be ignited
From within to make you whole.

    • Hi Lianne. I read your comments yesterday about your 80 year old mom who may not be a believer. A couple of comments I want to share.

      1. If you want your mom saved, the Lord wants this a thousand times more.

      2. We do the praying and God the Holy Spirit will work on her heart and bring conviction of sin and a desire for forgiveness as she puts her trust the Lord. “Man sees the outward, God sees the heart”. We don’t know what God is doing in her heart. So we trust the Lord.

      3. I am not sure if you mom can communicate in any way, can actually see you talking and have the ability to understand. Regardless, even if she appears not to be able to understand, God the Holy Spirit can reach her spirit. Regardless of the persons physical or mental state, they still have “their hearing” till their last breath.

      4. I love this statement, “if we can’t talk to a person about God, we can talk to God about the person”…casting our burden, concern upon the Lord – (if unsaved! then only the Lord can convict and save someone).

      5. You can continue to speak love gently into her ears. You can speak scriptures into her ears. You can express gently into her ears that you love her and God loves her and you want to one day meet her in Heaven where Jesus is.

      6. You can gently touch her forehead or hold her hands and pray for her. If she is alert and may be offended, then just pray under your breath…God will do the rest… Loving her through it all.

      7. If you “Pray in the Spirit” ( gift of tongues), again you can lay your hands on her head or hold her hands or hug her or whatever, and just be praying in the spirit silently..Bearing in mind, Romans 8:26, “Likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us groaning which cannot be uttered.” NKJV

      8. Surrender her to the Lord first, last and always. trust the Holy Spirit to find a way of speaking to her heart, God could give her a revelation in her spirit, he could be working in her heart all the time.

My wife has Alzheimers and is a believer and has served the Lord for many decades. She can hear and understand but very little response, maybe a smile or word..I do not know how to pray for her so I actually follow #4-8. I speak to her lovingly, gentle, quietly and in my normal voice. She is like a stroke patient so I do pray vocally in a quiet gentle way.. (However, if I am concerned about an unsaved person, then #8 first ( and ask God to intervene in their lives in ANYWAY He wants to get their attention) …then to proceed with #1-8, being sensitive both to the Spirit of God and to the heart of the Person. You can also read short testimonial stories or a Bible story, whatever God lays on your heart.

Lifting you and your mom up in prayers. We all have loved ones and friends who need the Lord (or other needs) and it is good to pray for one another and bear each others burdens before the Lord. Blessings to all bloggers. Samuel

  6. Pastor David …thanks for sharing the pictures of Jadice Patterson…what a beautiful great-granddaughter!!
How blessed your children are to have such a strong christian foundation and guidance, with you and Norma-Jean as their example. I pray for continued blessing on you and all involved in bringing this daily word to us for the Glory of God, Amen!!!

  7. Samuel
Thank you I have the gift you spoke about , but have not used it in awhile.
I like it when you said “if we can not talk to the person about , God we can talk to
God about the person” and God will do the rest. One thing I need is to read scriptures on trusting God and pray

  8. Lord no one likes abortion! It is murder! The only One who can do anything about this situation is You dear Lord! You can speak to the hearts of people and make them aware of what abortion is! It is murder!
Lord send the Holy Spirit to speak into the hearts of the people everywhere! Speak to the hearts of the people to make good choices! If they do not want a child to plan this before having sex! Lord You need to speak LOUD And CLEAR to the people all over the earth about killing an unborn child! Help us Lord, forgive us Lord, we ask this in Jesus Name AMEN

  9. Thank you for posting the pictures of your great-grand daughter…She is beautiful…
    Psalm 139:15
“You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.”
Every Christian is to stand and fight for the innocent, the unborn…no exception…
We all stand for the Word of God…Blessings…Rolanda and Earl…
