Key Verse: Exodus 29:18

And you shall burn the whole ram on the altar. It is a burnt offering to the Lord; it is a sweet aroma, an offering made by fire to the Lord.

This seems like a strange ugly scene in the middle of the ceremony and pageantry of the ordination of the High Priest and his fellow priests. Suddenly there is blood and death in the Tabernacle. Aaron and his sons are compelled to stand in their new beautiful robes and to participate in killing a ram. As they lay their hands on the animal, it is slaughtered, its blood drained and sprinkled around. God ordered this ugly scene to remind us of the ugliness and seriousness of sin. Our sin results in death. The ram’s death is a picture of God’s mercy. An animal was dying in the place of Aaron and his sons. Of course, no animal is worth the value of a human being. Ultimately, only a human being could die for another human. Jesus, fully Human and fully Divine, accomplished this in His death.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I recognize the horror of my sin which caused the terrible consequences of the death of Your Son, Jesus. I’m so very, very sorry, Lord. May I be sorry enough to quit my sin. The enormity of Christ’s personal sacrifice for me is overwhelming to me. I give You my life according to the grace You’ve given me to do so. I pray these mercies through Jesus Christ, my Lord and Saviour. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

As a boy I travelled with my Dad from time to time in his visitation of the farming community which he served as minister. On one occasion we happened upon the slaughter of a steer. The bellowing, the struggling, the blood, the sight of its agony, the smell of death are scenes graphically imprinted on my mind. Sometimes, even now, when I’m enjoying one of Norma-Jean’s delicious roast beef dinners, that experience comes to my mind. An animal died to provide for me. The enjoyment of the superb taste, including potatoes, gravy, peas, carrots and butternut squash, soon turns the ugly memory to appreciation for such a gift. When I partake in the communion meal at church, I bring to mind John 6:52-59. In particular, verse 54 is startling. “He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.” This is true, and I decided years ago to believe.

Yours, grieving over my sin and at the same time celebrating God’s amazing grace!

David

  1. Thank you for the full circle explanation behind the sacrifice of animals in place of our sin in the OT and God giving us Himself as the sacrifice in His Son, our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ in the NT. We were incapable as human beings to fulfill God’s wishes of us and therefore He gave Himself to set us free. How mind-blowing and heart-consuming! The human race remains even more fallen in this generation without Jesus. In suffering and dying, we are reborn and risen because of the Spirit of God in us. Amen! Wishing all saints a blessed day. Sending you prayers and love, dear David!

But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.” Revelation 5:5 NKJV

Watched the sunrise unfold at the lake, this morning–so beautiful; followed by an awesome swim in choppy water. This song was strumming through my head the whole time as I was giving thanks to Jesus:

  2. Hi David – Another way we can look at your Vlog, aside from a “commercial” would be that 2 minutes times 365 days is 730 minutes (1yr) times two years is 1460 minutes in total. Divide this by 60 minutes (1hr) would total 24 hours and 33 minutes you have shared with us in your Vlog over two years!! That’s over one full day of sharing with us your teachings and insight! Thank you, many times over, and may Our Lord keep you healthy and blessed!!

  3. Yesterday, Marilyn asked for prayer for finances. In agreement with Irene, I pray Yahweh Jireh, Our Provider, all great and powerful, bestow Your blessing of financial abundance and prosperity upon our fellow saint, Marilyn. Come into her life, Lord, like never before. You know everything about her situation, Lord. Most of all, You know how much she adores You. Close all doors to everything and anyone in her life that is not beneficial to her growth and which may be impeding her prosperity. Open every door with new opportunity to promote Marilyn’s financial blessings of abundance. Show her the way, Lord, and lift her away from any fear or worry by gaining strength in Your Word and holding Your Cloak. For You are the way, the truth, and the life. And we give You all the thanks and praise and glory! In Jesus’ Name, amen, amen, and amen!

  4. Thank u Rev. Mainse for the explanation about the animals being sacrificed. I love God’s creatures so much and realize they don’t have a soul like ours but it hurts me so much to see any of them abused or misused. I enjoy a good pork roast too as well as beef, chicken and any other safely edible creature God has presented us with, but it still hurts if they weren’t killed humanely. So sad to see all of those caribou killed in one shot, by lightning. (Google, caribou killed by lightning).
Hopefully the meat could be saved to feed so many needy and hungry. I was raised on a farm and know that some animals don’t stand still, let alone allow us to put our hands on their heads before slaughtering them. Your explanation helps me a lot. Thank u Rev. Mainse and praying for a happy and comfortable blessed day for you and your loved ones.

  5. I am so thank full that we can come before the Lord with out all the sacrifices of animals. Thank you Jesus that you paid the price!

  6. Thank you Lord Jesus for your perfect sacrifice of your own life for us at Calvary! Thank you David for your comments and prayers which I pray everyday. Pondering over the fact our sin and rebellion are symbolized by the death of the ram. I remember pigs being slaughtered here and used to go upstairs and put my fingers in my ears. Glad the funeral of your mother went well Donna. Agree in prayer with Beverlee for your finances Marilyn. Praying for you and trust you are recovering well David. God bless all of you.

  7. Thank you David for giving us a clearer understanding of the Word, your personal experiences.
I too grew up on a farm and was glad for the Lord’s provision for us, not only the various animals to be nourished with, but also wheat, fresh fruit and vegetables. I praise God for my mother who knew how to prepare delicious meals for us. One who, as a widow, worked many long hours to provide for us, spiritually and physically. Thank you Jesus for my Mother!!
How good to note that you are being well fed, and enjoying a healthy appetite David. How blessed you are to have a Norma-Jean to love and care for you.
God bless both of you and all your family!!!

GOD IS SOOO GOOD!!! AND I PRAISE HIS HOLY NAME!!

I’M FREE TO LOVE, I’M FREE TO WORSHIP, I’M FREE BECAUSE OF YOUR SACRIFICE AND LOVE JESUS!!! THANK YOU!!!
