GOD’S WILL

Today’s Reading: Mark 3

Capernaum has many traces of earlier societies. Found among its ruins is this grinding wheel which could work even today.

Key Verse: Mark 3:35

…For whoever does the will of God is My brother and My sister and mother.

In the first three chapters, the word “immediately” is used 11 times. Peter told the stories to Mark, who wrote them down. Peter was an “immediately” man. He believed in “do it now.” Jesus mentored him in this.

The healing of the withered hand united three religious groups in opposition to Jesus. An unclean “religious spirit” motivated them. Even “His own people” (probably relatives) thought Him “out of His mind” (verse 21). The warning against the one who “blasphemes against the Holy Spirit” (verse 29) is most serious. The primary work of God’s Spirit is in bringing people to Jesus for Salvation. Rejecting Jesus until death is unforgivable because one never asks for forgiveness.

Finally, how do we do “God’s will?” We live our lives as a true “brother, and sister, and mother” to Jesus (Jesus’ true Father is God and Joseph had passed away). All I must do is follow Jesus ever so closely.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I pray fervently that I will do Your will, acting “immediately” on that which You’ve taught me through Your Word. May this daily blog light up “God’s will” so that I may see You with insight and live accordingly. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

My blog photo from two days ago is of the synagogue in Capernaum. It’s a 3rd Century structure, but you can see the original foundation from the time of Jesus when you visit. The Holy Land Tour this Fall with Ron and Ann (you are invited – click here for info) will bring the activities of Jesus alive in an amazing way! My mother and father visited Israel on their honeymoon in 1924. They were missionaries next door to Israel, in Egypt. I lived as a child on these stories and over and over I looked at their pictures. Miss Brown, a missionary in Jerusalem, loaned my parents her Model T Ford car. Dad said he backed up the hills of Palestine (before Israel became a modern state), because the car’s gas supply was gravity fed, and if the tank was lower than the engine, he’d run out of gas. Well, that’s not really important, but I enjoy telling these stories.

Yours to help us all do “God’s will,”

David

  1. Romans 8:17 (NLT)
    And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.

  2. So thankful to be reminded of our relationship to Jesus – mother, brother, sister, etc. Comforting. My father-in-law told me stories of doing that with his car in Canada (backing up and taking a run at a hill)! Have a blessed day all.

  3. I am sat here with Maggie my sisters granddaughter , she is eight years old .
    We have just listened to your blog David .
    This is Maggie and I love hearing about god

  4. Thank you for your explanations of each days readings and your little personal comments. My dad was a pioneer oilman, working in the Turner Valley area of Alberta in the booming 1920’s. I remember well, my mom and dad telling of going fishing in the foothills west of there and how they had to back up the steep hills with the Model T. I guess the Trout in Sheep Creek were well worth the trip.
    David, I wish you 20 more years at least. Joe S.

  5. Enjoying my second time thru the Bible with you David M. and all your comments on personal happenings in your life. Thanks for sharing.
    Found this lovely poem while reading an old book a friend loaned me.

    A Poem By Herbert O’Driscoll

    God’s noble men and women,
    Who live his love and grace,
    Rejoice that they have heard his call
    In every time and place,
    The story of our country
    Is richer far than gold;
    Its treasure is in human lives
    Who serve in ways untold.

    De Brebeuf for the Hurons dies,
    A martyr Lord for thee;
    And Grenfell built in Labrador
    His missions by the sea.
    Today McClure untiring toils
    With all that maims and blinds;
    And Vanier builds a house of love
    For young retarded minds.

    And some are called in other ways,
    But called O Lord by thee;
    Macdonald made a wilderness
    One land from sea to sea.
    Riel, for all men’s freedom,
    To his own age appealed;
    The gentle hands of Bethune
    The wounds of China healed.

    To speak in Art of every kind
    Your Spirit finds a way;
    You showed ‘The Seven’ your glory
    On windswept Georgian Bay.
    To Leacock you gave laughter,
    To Service sourdough lays;
    To Forrester a glorious song,
    To Willan notes of praise.

    Thanks be to God the Father
    Who gives to all things breath;
    To Jesus Lord of human life,
    The conqueror of death.
    To Him who fills the universe,
    Who lives beyond all days,
    To God the Holy Spirit
    We offer thanks and praise

  6. Oh, Jesus! We thank You for Your Word, which you preached to Mark and fellow disciples, so that we, c. 1983 years later, would continue to be guided by You. To love one another and counter hate. To forgive and be forgiven and remove bitterness. To give and to receive. To be restored and wash away the past. To be glorified as a blessing to the future. Oh for the Glory of Your Kingdom, on earth as it is in heaven. Amen. Blessings fellow saints in the Lord.
