These are the gates of the main city of the tribe of Dan. It was located in northern Israel near the base of Mount Herman and the source of the Jordan River – Joshua 19:40-48.

Key Verse: Genesis 30:22

Then God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her and opened her womb.

Two women living in the same household, vying for the affection of the same man. Not only was polygamy culturally acceptable, it was often encouraged. What heartache could’ve been avoided if they had followed God’s original plan in creating one man and one woman, and making His will known. Nevertheless, God meets us where we are and bestows mercy and grace. Rachel’s first son, Joseph, became one of God’s great men of all time. How heartwarming it is to know that God answered Rachel’s prayer. Also, God continued to bless Jacob with wealth and many children. In our 21st century understanding of God’s will and purpose, it’s difficult to process these things. Just keep open to the Teacher, the Holy Spirit.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Dear Lord, please give me the grace to wait for Your timing. I realize that going ahead on my own will only bring heartache in the long run. I’m like a little child, and I know You’re holding my hand. I belong to You and You want what is best for me. This confidence comes from knowing You, Lord Jesus Christ. In Your Name I pray. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

Ok, I admit it. I have gone ahead with my own initiatives. I struggled with this matter of gettings things done. I finally reached a conclusion. If I believe that something is good to do, I move ahead. But at the same time, I pray that if what I’m about to do is not God’s will, He’ll step in and stop events before they progress. Even on our wedding day on the way to the church I prayed this: “Lord, I believe that Norma-Jean is to be my wife and I’m going ahead with the marriage, and I love her very much. But if this is not Your perfect plan, please stop it right now.” How thankful I am that God allowed the marriage to happen. Four children, 16 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren, plus great ministry opportunities later, I’m a blessed man!

Yours in the service of the God of Jacob,

David

P.S. Yesterday was the first day of Lorna Dueck’s Presidency of Crossroads Christian Communications Inc. and the Crossroads Television System  (CTS or now YES TV). When this was first announced to our team members on staff, my grandson, Adam Mainse, a video editor, texted his Dad and Mom, Ron and Ann Mainse, “There were gasps of joy!” I think that Lorna is the bravest person to be willing to take on this heavy leadership responsibility. The ministry is in a difficult place financially. We simply must lift Lorna’s hands in support…the one hand is strong fervent prayer, and the other hand is to give a sacrificial offering over and above our regular giving. Please join Norma-Jean and me in sending your largest possible gift. If I was right there with you, I would say that this is an emergency offering. Will you help Lorna to a fresh new beginning. I know from working daily with her for eight years that she cries out to the Lord for people to come to Jesus. This is her passion (click here for a message from Lorna and here to donate).

  1. God’s purposes come to pass, even within our weak limited understanding. Society changes, values and principles within culture changes over time, and yet God remains unchanged. We’ve probably seen (or are seeing) the greatest shift in societal values in the shortest period of time in history. Within the last 50 years there has been such a change in societal “norms” in the West. What was once largely condemned as immoral a few short years ago is now being pushed to be accepted as the norm. Praise God that His Holy Word doesn’t change and that He is unchangeable, no matter if HIs Word isn’t exactly politically correct by the societal standards of today . His Word is truth and His Word WILL come to pass.

  2. What a blessing to have Lorna as the new CEO. I have been praying for her since it was 1st announced as well as for you David. God bless her in her new leadership role with His wisdom & understanding & God bless Crossroads. PTL

  3. Today’s photo is another example of the Bible’s proof. The matters of polygamy are difficult to grasp; envy anger and deceit go along with it; appreciate your explanation, David. Humans sin; God forgives. However, the sins weigh down the generations and curses are laid upon them. Yes, we are open to the leading of the Holy Spirit and ever thankful for Jesus who saved us! It was wonderful to see Lorna on yesterday’s show; will give to help the Ministry of Crossroads flow. Blessings dearest saints in the Lord.
