RAISED

Today’s Reading: Matthew 26

Click scripture link to read online or HERE to listen online (then click the symbol of the audio speaker above the scripture portion).

Looking east from the south end of the Old City of Jerusalem you can see the Mount of Olives. The graves of thousands of Jewish people who await the general resurrection dot the hillside. The tower to the left is said to mark the spot from which Jesus ascended into Heaven (Acts 1:9-11).

Key Verse: Matthew 26:32

But after I have been raised, I will go before you to Galilee.

It’s difficult to choose a key verse as this chapter is filled with crucial truth for all people. The death and resurrection of Christ is the focal point of all history. It is His story! Once again Jesus states the fact of His death and resurrection and once again His disciples failed to comprehend. This time they were too sleepy to take in truth. Are you wide awake? Are you ready to understand? Understand that when Jesus gives a promise, its fulfillment is absolutely sure! It is impossible for Him to lie! He knew He must die and He also knew He must rise again. This was the reason He came. He also knew the humanity of His followers. They would remember His instructions about meeting Him in Galilee after the resurrection, and they would obey Him.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, as I read Your Words, grant the grace to make those Words an integral element in my spiritual DNA. Please grant me full comphrehension and obedience. I pray this with sincerety and faith that You will do this in me for Your Glory and for the fulfillment of Your plan for my life. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I have been reading your responses to 100words.ca. Thank you for letting me know that you are there with me daily. I turn 80 on August 13th, and as an old-timer I’m not always sure anyone would bother reading my blog. I don’t really understand the new social media. Come to think of it, I didn’t understand television back on June 2nd, 1962 either. I do know, however, that God gave me the grace of obedience then, and He’s doing so now. If you are blessed and encouraged, or if this blog helps you in the daily discipline of reading the entire Bible in meal-sized portions over two years, then God’s purpose is being fulfilled. Amen! and Amen!

Continuing in obedience,

David

P.S. Yesterday I mentioned my first two times preaching. Someone said to me, “I’ve heard you talk on TV, but I’ve never heard you preach.” Well, here goes! Below is a link to a message I delivered in the mid-90’s at Compass Point Church, which is located next door to the Crossroads Centre in Burlington, Ontario. My opening remarks will seem odd unless I tell you that actor Bruce Marchiano, who played the part of Jesus in The Gospel of Matthew movie, had been quoting Jesus’ words as he walked down the stairs between the pulpit and the congregation. Unfortunately Bruce tripped and fell, but recovered quickly. I was scheduled to preach immediately after Bruce’s last line. That evening we were celebrating the 5,000th 100 Huntley Street telecast. I don’t know of any other time when my preaching was videotaped. It was some years ago, and now we have have celebrated the 10,000th telecast (last fall). If you have the time to handle some preaching, click here (it’s only about 13 minutes long). If you think that this message might touch someone, bringing them to Christ, please pass it on! Thank you!!!

  1. Amen, David! Powerful scripture, today. I can only imagine Peter’s feelings after denying he knew Jesus, and hearing the rooster crow! I can only imagine Peter and the rest of the disciples backing away from Jesus as He was taken by the guards to be beaten and crucified, then to witness proof of His resurrection and multiple post-resurrection visits, and proclaim Him completely and become His great apostle. Amen! I look forward to listening to your sermon, later, David. I have heard you preach, in person, and also watched a powerful sermon you gave on youtube, which I will search to post. Blessings dearest saints in the Lord.

  2. Mt. 26:56b (NLT) “…at that point, all the disciples deserted him and fled”.

Everyone abandoned Jesus in His hour of need. The disciples were fearful, they were afraid of a number of things : 1. They were afraid that their association with Jesus might result in their own eventual persecution and/or death. 2. They were afraid that maybe Jesus had it all wrong; for if Jesus could call upon His legions of angels to reverse the situation in an instant, then why wouldn’t He? 3. They were weak, very human, very vulnerable to the opinions and condemnations of man’s authority. The disciples deserted Jesus … those very words sends shivers down my spine. Are we fearful? Are we vulnerable? Are we driven by the opinions of others? Might we too abandon Jesus? Terrifying questions. I pray that we cling to our Lord, study the word consistently to show ourselves approved, pray that we won’t too won’t weaken and most importantly seek the power, might and guidance of the Holy Spirit day by day. My friends, God loves us … let us then choose to live by faith and not by fear.

  9. Your sermon made my tears flow again once again David especially as you quoted the verse,” His mercy endureth forever” as I have lost one of my best friends on earth. Also to read again the sorrow and suffering the Lord went through at His death is very real today and He did it all for us. I have been watching 100 Huntley St. since 1979 as well and it has been a stay in my Christian life. Thank you so much David, Norma Jean, family, staff and all associated with it. 15. Yes, I am with you. praying that you will be well physically. Such a sad chapter. Betrayed by a friend and then Peter’s denial. I’m glad that there is more to the story to follow.

  16. Your 100 Words post is invaluable. Please remember that for every person who didn’t write to tell you so, there are at least 10 others who would have done so if they had more time !

Appreciate the fabulous photos accompanying your blog, too.
Thanks for including the short 13 minute message.
I do save many of your daily comments to share with others.
I re-title the heading so I can find the specific subject of the 100 Words post.
Bless you from the bottom of my heart.
Your life is a beautiful inspiration to so many! !.

  17. Lord God You know that I have done exactly what Peter did! I am not proud of those times, I am SO thankful that I can come to You dear Lord and say that I am so sorry for the way I behaved! I ask for Your forgiveness and I thank you that You have forgiven me!
There were many times in my life that guilt would be so powerful and no one could understand what was happening to me! I was beating myself up inside, over and over, and this led to many suicide attempts in my earlier years! No one told me that You really do forgive us our sins! Yes I went to church and Sunday School, BUT I didn’t really understand! I didn’t see any Christian living! I loved my parents but dad drank, fought with mom, used horrible language on me….so……..I really did think I was going to hell…I had a fabulous Pastor teaching Confirmation, I REALLY enjoyed the classes and I really enjoyed this Pastor. He was kind, funny, loved God and his family, he had a son Eric and we had a grand time in Confirmation. It went for 4 years, every Saturday, and little did I realize that God would keep that memory of those learning times very clear in my mind and now I do understand that what God says in the Bible is TRUE! He does not lie! When He said YOU ARE MINE! I BOUGHT YOU WITH MY BLOOD! My Father put Me on the Cross so that YOU have freedom form any and all sin in this world! My Father put Me on the Cross so that YOU have my DNA inside you, you are MY CHILD! Nothing will ever change that fact!
Yep! That is our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! HE HAS THE WHOLE WORLD IN HIS HANDS!
AMAZING GRACE! Simply AMAZING! Thank you Lord for this day and all of its blessings, thank you Lord for the Holy Spirit that calls, gathers and enlightens all in the One TRUE Word! amen
