THE RIGHT HAND

Today’s Reading: Psalms 110-113

In the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem candles are continuously being lit outside of the Edicule (small shrine chamber), where many believe that Jesus’ grave was located. When Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire in the fourth century after Christ, the vast wealth of the empire began to be poured into the construction of magnificent church buildings. There is no tomb here hewn out of rock. It is claimed that during the second and third centuries, when Jerusalem was declared to be a pagan city, the rock in which the tomb was located was removed in an attempt to remove the memory of Jesus’ resurrection.

Key Verses: Psalm 110:1

The Lord said to my Lord,

“Sit at My right hand,

Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.”

The key to understanding the Bible is to let the Bible interpret the Bible. As we read, we do our best to compare Scripture with Scripture. Let’s do this by reading Matthew 22:41-46, where Jesus gives a commentary on Psalm 110. There are many New Testament Scriptures to which we could turn to help our understanding. Here’s one more example found in Hebrews 5:5-10. Psalm 110 is quoted by both Jesus and by the writer of Hebrews.

Psalms 111 & 112 are written as acrostics. In Hebrew they are beautiful poetry. All sentences begin with a consecutive letter of the Hebrew alphabet. The acrostic is a device which is created to help in memorization. The Scriptures were written to be studied by all people who love God and who take pleasure in learning more about God. We who do this daily blog are some of those people!

Psalm 113 quotes from the song of Hannah, the mother of Samuel, who praised God for healing her so that she was no longer childless (1 Samuel 2:1-10).

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I thank You for communicating with me through prophets, kings, poets, musicians, priests, apostles, pastors, teachers, evangelists, but most of all through Your Son and my Saviour, Jesus Christ. I pray for more and more of the One that You promised would guide me into all truth…The Holy Spirit! Holy Spirit, I know that You live in me as a believer, according to the promise of Scripture. Now I pray that I, my total being, will live in You! I desire to be filled to overflowing with Your Person, Holy Spirit! I ask this in the Name of the One who was always filled with the Holy Spirit, the Lord Jesus! Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

It was in 1968 when, as a young Pastor, I first visited the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. I was filled with joy to be in a place where it was said that Jesus was buried and then arose from the dead. However, as I stepped inside the man-made structure, I was met by a priest who asked for money. I gave him something, and I know I should have been more gracious, but my disappointment was so great that I turned and walked out immediately. My parents, missionaries to Egypt, had travelled to Jerusalem in 1924 for their honeymoon, where mother took pictures of what is known as “The Garden Tomb,” which is in a different location. I was raised on those pictures. That Garden Tomb may not be the actual location of Jesus’ burial, but it sure looks like it.

Yours for experiencing the presence of God, whether in Jerusalem or here at home,

David

  1. Wonderful psalms, photos and scriptures with today’s message. Thank you for your powerful prayer, David. Our hearts are steadfast, trusting in You, oh Lord. You are at our right hand and we praise You, with undying breath. We extol You, Lord, with all our heart. To You, belongs eternal praise and all the glory! In Jesus’ precious name. Amen, amen, and amen!

Holding you and your husband up in prayer, Gwen. Thank you for your prayers for my surgery, tomorrow, saints. I will post the time when I receive it. A new poem to reflect the mood for everyone facing difficult trials; a part of life we will rise above with prayer and God’s almighty mercy. We hold onto our faith, amen! Wishing fellow saints a most blessed day in the Lord.

In the depths of the storm
    And torrential waves we face,
    When uncertainty and adversity
    Encroach our very space.

Let us hold onto the rock of God
Neither shall we fear or coil away,
For in the struggles we become strong
    And overcome with amazing grace.

  2. Wonderful uplifting reading today and your poem Beverlee.
Oh God Most High I bring to you our prayers this day for Gwen’s dear husband as he faces this trial but we know You are with them and as they dwell in your peace and soak in your goodness give your peace that goes beyond all peace. May they feel your arms holding them and we pray for healing and ease of pain. Let them know they are loved. Amen

Father tomorrow our dear sister Beverlee faces a surgery on her back. Gather her under your mighty wings and let her know she is not alone as the prayers of her fellow bloggers go with her and her faith in You Our Saviour will strengthen and carry her through. We love you Beverlee and trust in God’s healing and ease of pain. Blessings.

  3. “The Garden Tomb” is a special place and I too feel that was where Jesus was buried. I too went inside the tomb.

Thank you Rev. David for sharing your disappointment. The man-made tomb is not the same as that in “The Garden Tomb”

Thank you Jesus, the Tomb is empty!!! and You Live forevermore, seated at the Right-hand of The Father!!! Amen and Amen!!!!

  4. I posted a prayer for Gwen’s husband and for sister Beverlee’ surgery tomorrow, earlier this morning, but do not see it here.

Please know I am much in prayer for both situations. Our God is with you.

  5. Was disappointed as well David, but not yesterday as I prayed the Sinner’s Prayer with a 97year old and it was sincere after 11 years of witnessing. Praise God as He is faithful! Pray for your husband Gwen and for you Beverlee and your surgery tomorrow. I pray the Lord and the Holy Spirit will overshadow the surgeons and they will do the very best job they can do. The Lord give you strength and peace today sister-in-Christ.

  6. Prayer for Beverlee and for Gwen’s husband. God is good. He is our Shield and our Protector. Jesus IS ALIVE. No body in either grave!

  7. Special prayers for you Beverley as you undergo surgery. The Great Physician is watching over you. “The Great Physician now is near, the sympathizing Jesus…O how my soul delights to hear – the Precious Name of Jesus!”

I was also blessed this morning reading Ps. 110:7 “He will drink from a brook beside the way; therefore, he will lift up his head” (NIV) “drink from the brook” -spiritually thirsty; refreshment; “along the wayside” – where you are, whatever the circumstances, whatever the need. “the wayside” – the hard places of life, trampled down ground ..crying out for “a drink”; “therefore, he will lift up his head” – lift up his head, look above circumstances; be strengthened, be encouraged, strength to go on” “Looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith”

This verse captured my attention this morning and was really blessed by it. I like the translation of TLB, “But he himself shall be refreshed from springs along the way”. The 100 Words helps us to ‘drink deeply’ from the Word of God as God the Holy Spirit ministers to our hearts through His Word, the life and commentary by Pastor David, the excellent photos and the love and prayers and comments shared by all the bloggers. “Drinking at the springs of living water!”

I, too, was disappointed when seeing some of the sights. I was glad to get back to the Word of God. Wherever Christ’s tomb was or is – the good news is , “the tomb is empty!” Hallelujah! We serve a living Saviour…how do I know He lives..He lives within my heart.

Blessings to all – especially those going through difficult times. “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am thy God. I will help thee; yes, I will strengthen thee; yes, I will uphold thee” Is. 41:10

    Samuel

  8. Yes, lifting up your husband, Gwen, in prayer–for healing and comfort, God’s mighty grace and mercy upon him, and strength and renewal for his body, heart and mind. Also praying for strength and rest for you, Gwen. God will see both of you through, amen. Thank you, oh wonderful saints–to each and every one of you–your prayers mean so very much to me, and they bless God, too. My surgery tomorrow is at 7:45 am and I should be in recovery by 11:30 am. I am certain it will go well. Last night I was coveted in hands on healing prayer from the congregation at Kingsway Christian Church (Pentecostal) with Andrew and Donna Belair and all their saints. I felt such love and healing power flow through me–amen! Today, I was blessed to share prayer with Pastor Reynolds James (it was amazing to see him) and had telephone prayer with Pastor Keith Deyo. My strength is in the Lord and my faith in Him will see me through, amen. Thank you beloved saints–you mean the world to me! God’s continued blessings to each and every one of you!

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

  9. upholding you in prayer Beverlee! May God give you peace and grace through your surgery and may God guide the entire hospital staff, the doctors, nurses, to be doing their very best at your surgery and that you will heal and be in good health and good happiness throughout your life!
