Key Verse – Exodus 20:1-2

And God spoke all these words saying, “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.”

Again God declares Himself as the “I AM.” Jesus said, “Before Abraham was, I AM.” (John 8:58) Make no mistake about it. Jesus claimed over and over to be the Lord God, the same one who delivered Israel from Egypt. What a contrast between these revelations of the “I AM.” Here there were thunderings, lightning flashes, trumpet sounds, the mountain smoking and thick darkness. And 1500 years later, there was the Baby in the manger, Jesus taking the children on His lap, Jesus weeping over the needs of people, and Jesus allowing human hands to crucify Him. From time to time in Genesis we saw God walking with Adam and Eve, walking with Enoch, becoming a friend of Abraham, but also driving Adam and Eve out of the garden and judging the human race with the flood. How can we ever understand this stark contrast? The answer is “The Cross.” God’s anger against sin, and his love for the sinner came together in Jesus. There was thunder, lightening, an earthquake, and darkness at noon as Jesus was dying. There was also the greatest manifestation of love in history!

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, great “I AM,” I’m overcome by Your awesome Person. I can do nothing right now but worship You. The words of the living creatures who are before Your throne come to mind; “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!” Also the words of the 24 elders who fall down before You and say, “You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory, and honour, and power; for You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created.” I praise You Lord and will do so for ever and ever. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I tried but failed to put my commentary into 100 words. Not only the books of the Bible, but thousands of other books have been written to help us understand Who the “I AM” is. I remember reading a story while still a teenager – This eminent naturalist was walking in his garden when he accidentally stepped on an ant. He thought, “How can I let an ant know that I really don’t mean him harm?” Then it occurred to him that he would have to become an ant to communicate with other ants. I remember thinking that when God became man, His condescension was greater than a man becoming an ant. The fact is that there is no illustration that can adequately portray what really happened when Jesus became one of us. All I could do was to bow down and worship the great, “I AM.”

Yours so that together we may worship the “Lord God Almighty,”

David

  1. Isn’t the paradox of God’s order amazing? For example, we are greatest when we are found to be poor; the glory of God is found in the humble; God is most fully revealed when He was placed on the cross etc. It’s almost beyond human understanding really, perhaps that’s why we need the power of the Holy Spirit to illuminate our minds and our hearts to the ways of the Lord. Certainly the example Christ came to show is not the way of the world in our generation. ‘Success’ has a very different definition to the Christian than to the world, Christ knew this to be true. Perhaps this is why Christ says to the Christian, ‘take up my yoke daily’. Being a Christian doesn’t mean you will always have an easy life, but the rewards God offers us are eternal. Let God’s spirit lead you and guide you in all ways and you won’t go wrong.

  2. Oh The Great I Am….. what ever we need He is there with us …The Great I am Physician, The Great I am ( we fill in the Blank ) Thank you Jesus that when we dont understand …..the Great I am is with us….. we will understand all of this some day ..when we see Him Face to Face..In the meantime…Holy, Holy, Holy Lord…we worship you ( together ) How wonderful to know Jesus in a Personal Relationship….Draw close to Him and He Will draw close to you.. what a Promise…..
David praying for you today…..We are Blessed Indeed…..

      • Jesus conquered death. Not only did He say, “I AM the resurrection and the life” but He rose from the dead to prove it. This is the great evidence Christ is the great I AM THAT I AM. He died, was buried and three days later was risen from the dead.

  3. Good Morning David, l have just finished reading and meditating on the scripture reading for today. Our God is truly awesome, and without Jesus sacrificial death on the cross we would all be without hope, but Praise the Lord he made provision for us to come to him not in slave labour but as his own precious children.WOW! When l ask the Holy Spirit to fill me with himself every day, l must also remember to walk uprightly before him as there is a responsibility to walk in God’s Love and give it away. Thank you once again my dear brother for the Spirit of your Blog which is so anointed.

  4. As we study the Scriptures we come upon paradoxes that we wonder about, but you brought it so beautifully together: “God’s anger against sin and His love for the sinner came together in Jesus!
    Thank you, blessings to all.

  5. l have been prompted to add that amazingly the same Holy Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead is the same Holy Spirit l invite into my life daily. It’s so miraculous!!

  6. Hello David,
My 20 year old daughter has been saying, “Mom, you’ve got to sign up for David’s 100 Words blog!” Well, I have finally now, and every morning it’s been a real blessing. There is so much on the internet that is intended to create fear by the enemy. I find I must continually be conscious of ‘keeping my eyes firmly fixed on Jesus’. He alone is our refuge and strength – a very present help in time of trouble. I have just found Ron Wyatt and his discoveries on YouTube. You have probably already seen these but, if not, I thought I should share this link. Especially if others are not aware of Ron Wyatt’s amazing and truly miraculous past discoveries of the Ark of the Covenant (where it was found & the blood on the Mercy Seat), Noah’s Ark, Sodom&Gomorah, the Red Sea Chariots. God is blessing His people in these last days with His comfort and hope. “I will never leave you, I will never forsake you”. Here is just one link – there are many more documentaries on Ron Wyatt’s adventures. May God continue to bless you & NormaJean as well as Crossroads Ministeries, David. Thank you for your faithfulness.

  7. Reynold’s photo reminded me of the scripture verse from Isaiah 43:19 (NKJV)
Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it?
I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert.
