ARISE

Today’s Reading: John 5

Click scripture link to read online or HERE to listen online (then click the symbol of the audio speaker above the scripture portion on the right-hand side).

In the Old City of Jerusalem are the ruins of the Pool of Bethesda. This is where Jesus healed the paralytic man who had been waiting for his healing for 38 years (John 5:1-15). Here you can also see ruins of a Roman temple to the god of medicine and the remains of a Byzantine church built over the temple.

Key Verse: John 5:24

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.

In yesterday’s reading we moved from “PERISHING” to “EVERLASTING LIFE.” Today, Jesus teaches that by believing we move from “DEATH INTO LIFE.” Seven times in John 3, 4, & 5 Jesus repeats His eternal or everlasting life promise. He really wants us to know the facts about our future as believers in Him. Since the sin of our first parents, we, as a human family, have moved in the opposite direction. We’ve gone from life to death. But in Jesus, that direction of destruction has been reversed, both in this life and in the hereafter. The example of the man with the 38-year-long infirmity shows us the “DEATH INTO LIFE” principle at work in our physical bodies in the here and now. The religious leaders of Jesus’ day failed to understand that Jesus came to turn what was the normal process around 180 degrees. By believing in Jesus, the new normal is “LIFE.”

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, I believe in You. I give You my entire life for both time and eternity. I believe You for the healing of my body, my soul and my spirit, a complete turn around from death to life. Please continue to give me the gift of faith to believe, 24/7, that this is a fact and that nothing will ever change this fact. This assurance fills me with joy. Thank You, Jesus! Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

When I served as a Pastor I was requested to lay hands on a newborn baby and pray for his healing. Marina Cooper’s little one was born with a hole in his heart. The very next day, I received a call that the hole had closed and her baby’s heart was perfect. I believe that Jesus did this!!!  He promised that these signs would follow them that believe. He said, “…they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover” (Mark 16:18b). Every believer qualifies to do this. Just do what the Scripture says and leave the rest up to God. For some reason I have begun to sing words from one of the children’s songs from the GodRocks ministry, “Not a doubt! Check it out! Better believe it!” My eldest daughter, Elaine, and her husband, Bruce Stacey, have given me t-shirts with those words on them, plus an additional t-shirt with another line from the same song, “Not ashamed to shout it!” I encourage you to check out the GodRocks website by clicking here.

Yours for believing,

David

  1. Amen, David! Interesting photo, Reynold! Thank you Beverley. To God be the Glory! Would be interested in reading an update of your work in Florida, David. In Him is life and this life is in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ! Praise God! Blessings saints!

  2. What a blessing to receive this blog each day and the affirmation that Our God Father, Son, and Spirit is the only way, truth and life.

Thank you for your prayer Pastor David and I pray God will bless your work there with Norma-Jean in Florida. Will that be your permanent home now?

Beverlee, May you feel the presence of The Lord and His peace as you go for surgery on Thurs. My prayers go with you.

  3. Well! Today’s reading is the same as Rod Hembree’s study! Nice to be on the same track. Today my husband and I go to hear what the doctor has to say about his cancer. His lymph nodes on the right side are swollen so that does not look good at all. I will anoint him with oil and lay hands on him before we go. He has been sleeping with a prayer cloth in his pillowcase that was specifically prayed over for healing of cancer (via a well-known evangelist) and along with ours. Ross was prayed for at the healing meetings at Crossroads during the summer but we did not know he had cancer at that time. May God’s Perfect Will take over. (I heard that David was speaking in Kitchener/Waterloo area but I don’t know the address. Christian Horizons are also celebrating their 50th Anniversary and it will be in Oakville, ON God willing, we hope to be there. Bless everyone, especially Beverlee as she has her surgery.

    • Doreen, we bring Ross before The Lord and pray you will both feel His Presence as you visit the doctor and that good news of healing will be there for you. Rest in His peace and love. Catherine

    • In agreement with Catherine, Doreen, lifting you and Ross up, before the Lord, for your strength, and his healing, protection and cleansing from the Holy Blood of Jesus. He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.

  4. Once again I’m blessed by this blog …thank you Mainse family for your ministry to us. May your day be filled with Joy in Christ Jesus. I sang with God Rock Praises unto God.

Thank you Lynda …that too is a song my family love to sing.

    Blessings to you all always.

  5. Beautiful picture and a wonderful study . Prayer s going up for Beverlee “s op and Doreen”s husband. My Pastor is having surgery today for prostate cancer, apparently it is a fast moving cancer that he ha got. I would appreciate your prayers for him. His name is Pastor Paul. Thank you and God Bless all of you.

    • Abba Father, we lift up Pastor Paul to You, and ask that You work through the surgeon’s hands to remove all the cancer and any infection in his body, bringing him strength and healing and a peaceful recovery, that he may continue to work for You. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;

“And the peace of God, which transcends all our powers of thought, will be a garrison to guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:7)

There is what is called the “cushion of the sea.” Down beneath the surface that is agitated by storms, and driven about with winds, there is a part of the sea that is never stirred. When we dredge the bottom and bring up the remains of animal and vegetable life we find that they give evidence of not having been disturbed in the least, for hundreds and thousands of years. The peace of God is that eternal calm which, like the cushion of the sea, lies far too deep down to be reached by any external trouble and disturbance; and he who enters into the presence of God, becomes partaker of that undisturbed and undisturbable calm.
    –Dr. A. T. Pierson

When winds are raging o’er the upper ocean,
And billows wild contend with angry roar,
‘Tis said, far down beneath the wild commotion,
    That peaceful stillness reigneth evermore.

Far, far beneath, the noise of tempest dieth,
And silver waves chime ever peacefully,
And no rude storm, how fierce soe’er it flieth,
Disturbs the Sabbath of that deeper sea.

So to the heart that knows Thy love, O Purest,
There is a temple sacred evermore,
And all the babble of life’s angry voices
Dies in hushed silence at its peaceful door.

Far, far away, the roar of passion dieth,
And loving thoughts rise calm and peacefully,
And no rude storm, how fierce soe’er it flieth,
Disturbs the soul that dwells, O Lord, in Thee.
    –Harriet Beecher Stowe

  9. praying for all…..however that prayer about covering you with his feathers and so on…..that is confusing to me….can someone explain …….started a Bible study on prayer…..it’s going to be great just before Christmas and encourages us all to pray for our country and leaders and our families and neighbours…..blessings to all

    • Scripture from Psalm 91:4:
He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.

When you are in biblegateway, i.e., on John 5 for Oct. 21, on the far right of the screen click on Study This, and scroll down to Matthew Henry’s Commentary; and it explains that passage. We are constantly under God’s protection. It is a great tool to use for a bible study group! Bless you!

  10. thank you for explaining the feathers…..please continue to pray for Devon he is in the process of quitting smoking and waiting for the birth of his first born pay for thos who serve in the Lord’s kingdom and keep them strong aginst the evils of the world keep their families safe and let no evil enter their hearts or or thier lives pray for thos who have a chemical imbalance like mine and that God would give us the strength to rest when needed and to exercise as best as we can and try and get to church for morning services bless our children and our neighbourhoods thank you in Jesus Name AMEN
