THE LORD IS GOOD

Suggested Reading: Nahum 1-2

Click scripture link to read online or HERE to listen online (then click the symbol of the audio speaker above the scripture portion).

Looking east from the Zion Gate towards the Mount of Olives you can see Jerusalem's City walls. Perhaps Nahum had such walls in mind when he wrote that the Lord is "A stronghold in the day of trouble."

Key Verse: Nahum 1:7

The Lord is good,

A stronghold in the day of trouble;

And He knows those who trust in Him.

Anyone quickly reading today’s chapters may well assume that Nahum is only about judgment. Why? Because the theme is about the destruction of Nineveh, capital of the Assyrian Empire, as a result of the evil of their rule. By consistent reading of the Scriptures, we would not jump to that conclusion; we would remember that 100 years before Nahum’s prophesies, Jonah preached in the streets of Nineveh, the entire city repented, and they were spared from disaster. Nineveh became the mightiest city on earth. In 1842 the city was excavated by archeologists and they found walls 100 feet high and wide enough to allow three chariots to run abreast, as well as a moat 150 feet wide and 60 feet deep. Nahum predicted Nineveh’s destruction by an “overwhelming flood,” and 18 years later the Tigris river flooded, destroying part of the wall. The Babylonians invaded through this breach and Nineveh was destroyed, and its people subjugated.

Ten times in today’s reading the word “Lord” is found. While God is merciful and patient, justice for the nations must prevail sooner or later in time, and it is guaranteed in eternity. In chapter two, notice the word “excellence” repeated twice. God promises “excellence” to His people. Here’s the challenge to find this excellence! Man the fort! Watch the road! Strengthen your flanks! Fortify your power mightily!

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I pray for excellence in all my ways. May I have the determination spiritually that the people of Israel were exhorted to have physically in their restoration. You are Good! You are my Stronghold in my time of trouble! You know me because I trust in You! Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

Here I am, one month past the date when it was predicted I would die of acute MDS leukemia. As I ride my 1996 motorcycle, I feel like a teenager again, filled with energy and positive thoughts for the future. “The Lord is GOOD!” In the days of trouble over the past two years, I would quote that couplet I heard my father say, “Be my symptoms what they will, Jesus is my healer still.” Lately I’ve been sensing that God may be asking me to conduct healing services on Sunday nights during July and August. God has given me, I believe, a gift of faith for the healing of others. Of course, I’m very aware of another saying my dad said, “Man proposes, but God disposes!” God willing, I’ll report here on the blog by the end of May a decision regarding these healing services. Please join me in prayer for God’s direction. I would hope to sing the great hymns of faith that God’s people have sung through the centuries, as well as preach and teach God’s Word about healing and restoration!

Yours for finding the reasons why God has left each one of us here on earth, and fulfilling His purposes!!!

David

P.S. My son Ron showed me on his computer how you can to take each day’s blog photograph locations and get a 360 degree look all around the place where my other son, David Reynold, took the photos. If you haven’t tried it yet, click the “Google Maps” link under the photo and explore the area by dragging and dropping the little yellow man (located on the bottom right of the map). Then you will get the “street view,” and you can look all around by clicking the right or left arrows, which rotate the view.

  1. If you feel so led David, I hope you have these healing services. I rode for years as well as flew aircraft. Placing ourselves into the wind through winding roads and countryside is paramount to having wings and souring like an eagle. I commend you for living the life you have to the fullest! In God we trust! Have a great day everyone!

  2. “Be my symptoms, what they will. Jesus is my healer, still!” “Man proposes, but God disposes!” AMEN! God is in control of our healing and success of our plans. We are highly favoured in His sight. Look forward to hearing more about the Sunday night healing services in July and August. Sending blessings of God’s love to you, David Mainse! God’s continued blessings to all the saints, on this glorious day!

  3. Marvellous, David M. Your sense of calling witnesses in my spirit that this is right(sorry I haven’t prayed for you yet as you requested) and confirms to me that the Lord is leading me in the same way in our church at least the songleading of the old hymns and just Tuesday night I told the Pastor’s wife I would if the Pastor agreed. So please pray that God’s will be done. Sorry, I do not mean to draw attention away from you, David, I just thought it was so amazing that the Lord is leading this way. The healing part I have not considered yet but I was planning on just letting the Lord have His way and use this teaching and prayer you have been sharing with us for nearly two years for which we are so thankful David. Praise be unto our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! I just want to proclaim Him as Ann says, “Keep your eyes upon Jesus as it is all about Him.” Blessings fellow saints!

  4. David -it’s a delight to see you looking so ‘ hale and hearty’ each week as we’ve seen you each week at ‘Victory’, and Norma- Jean looks so radiant.
Ruth and I are heading back to Ontario Easter Monday. Can hardly wait to return to Lakeland in the Fall. It’s probably vanity, but we’re sure the ‘loose tea’ ( and sunshine ) is also helping us all ! The Lord indeed is indicating a marked rise in faith and demonstration of his Healing virtues these last few weeks on ‘Griffin’ – We’re with you in prayer. God Bless, Robin and Ruth Aldrich

  5. Enjoying 100 Huntley Street of late. The wonderful explanations of Jesus’ last days as a human are so helpful in strengthening my faith this holy week.
What an inspiring guest Dr. Anderson is. Looking forward to hearing more about his interesting life today.
Fox News interviewed Colton Burpo and his dad last week. It truly is a miracle that the boy, now twelve years old, went to visit heaven at such a young age and recalled his experiences.
Your healing services would give so many souls hope DM. So delighted for you et al that your health is giving you the joy and energy needed to live the life you live.
Enjoy your ‘bike’ rides wherever you go:-)

    • Re: Colton’s heavenly experiences. Normally, I do not not comment on such things but I am a bit torn about Colton’s experience of heaven. Glad he had a personal touich of the heavenlies and that it affected him positively but I am concerned that some of his discriptions are beyond information that the Bible provides. Care must be taken to make sure our faith is based on the Word of God and nothing else. Even the Apostle Paul would not describe what he saw he experienced “as one caukght ukp to the third heaven” (2 Cor. 12:1-10 KJV). He did not want anything to distract others from “the Christ of Calvary” and the significance of the Cross and the Empty Tomb. This is just my personal opinion. Samuel

I am praying for your grandaughter, Angel, as she struggles with suicidal thoughts. “O God, I ask you to intervene in this precious child’s life helping her get a new perspective of the precious of life, and enlightenment by the Spirit of God, that their help, hope, and healing through Jesus Christ our Saviour and Deliver. Bless, encourage and strengthen those who love her as they stand along side of her in understanding, love and care – trusting in our God “who strengthens us with strength in our soul” (Ps. 138:3) KJV. This whole Psalm is great. vs.8 was a great help to me recently, “The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me” KJV
      Samuel

    • Dear Brenda
Father God, we commit Angel to you right now asking You for Your healing touch on her. By your stripes we are healed. Wrap your loving arms around her and let her feel your love for her. Put your words in the mouths of all who speak to her. Thank you for answering this prayer as we pray in the only name that has healing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen

  7. Good morning David M and fellow bloggers. It’s a rainy and blustery morning here on the west coast… will abstain from doing any yard work today. 🙂

I’m pleased to hear that you are enjoying your ride home David. One on one time with our Heavenly Father is such a blessing… I’m a great believer in the power of faith through Christ Jesus when it comes to healing the wounded, the sick, the inflicted, and the lost…

He physically lifted your uncle from the well when he was a child. (I also experienced this kind of miracle.) He chose to extend your purpose here on earth when you were so ready to be with him in eternity. Enjoy this extended period of time and good health with your family and grandchildren…

May our Lord continue to be with you and guide you and fill you with His inspiration as you travel… Blessings to you and all our bloggers this Thursday, the day before Good Friday. Amen!

    • Hi David L. Glad to see a blogger from the West Coast. In what area? I was living in Langley but recently moved to South Surrey,White Rock border. The mention of ‘rain’ reminds me of a chorus of a song, “Showers of blessings, Showers of blessing we need, Mercy drops rouind us re falling but for the Showers we plead”. Have a great day. Samuel

  8. I tried the 360 view on Google maps links – very cool!!!!

How wonderful for you to be able to ride your motorcycle and feel so invigorated!!!! God is Good, All the Time!!!!! If God is asking you to conduct healing services then He will look after all the details. You stand as an example of God’s healing touch and your faith and hope in God is an encouragement for others. “By His stripes, we are healed”. I look forward to hearing about where and when these services will be held.

    Blessings to all blog-buddies today!!!!

  9. Hi David Mainse. There is a chorus we have enjoyed singing, “God is not finished with me yet”. God answers our prayers for a reason that we might glorify the Lord and the world needs to see the Power of God through Jesus Christ our Lord demonstrated through his healing powers – healing of the soul, the healing of the body, the healing of the mind, healing of emotions, the healing of relationships, a demonstration of God’s healing power in the world. The direction that God is leading you definitely lines up with the Ministry of Jesus as described iin Matthew 4:23 KJV “And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preachjing the gospel of the Kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.” – exactly what you feel the Lord guiding you to do – “teaching – preaching – healing”. “O God, continue to demonstrate the power of the Spirit of God through your servant, David Mainse, in the migthy Name of Jesus.” Samuel

    • PS to David Mainse. I truly believe God is going to work his miracles through you. Maybe you can keep in touch with us bloggers so we can also be blessed by your teaching, challenged by your preaching and participate in lifting your hands in prayer as God demonstrates the Power of His Spirit through you.

  11. Hi David

I think it is wonderful that God has put it on your heart to start a healing ministry. I’m sure you spent much of the last two years studying and praying about every verse relevant to healing. Then you trusted God as your healer to see you through. It would seem to me that you should be well equipped for a healing ministry. I look forward to hearing more about this.

I pray that God will give you much wisdom and bless you without end.

  12. Dear Rev David M:
