THE HUMAN HEART

Suggested Reading: Jeremiah 16-17

Click scripture link to read online or HERE to listen online (then click the symbol of the audio speaker above the scripture portion).

The Arch of Titus in Rome was constructed in 82 AD by the Roman Emperor Domitian shortly after the death of his older brother Titus to commemorate Titus' victory in the Sack of Jerusalem in 70 AD (note the extra photo below of the inside of the Arch). The Arch of Titus has provided the general model for many of the triumphal arches erected since the 16th century, including the famous Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France. In the P.S. today is the description of the destruction of Jerusalem according to the Jewish historian Josephus. The Roman historian, Tacitus, also covers this massacre of Jewish people and the rape of the Temple. It's not unlike what must have happened to Jerusalem when it was destroyed by the Babylonians hundreds of years earlier as prophesied by Jeremiah.

Key Verses: Jeremiah 17:9, 14

The heart is deceitful above all things,

And desperately wicked;

Who can know it?

…Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me and I shall be saved, for You are my praise!

Heart disease is our #1 killer physically. Same thing spiritually! Many of us are doing The Daniel Plan, which will help heal and strengthen that blood pump inside (click here for information), and for spiritual healing there is this blog! “He sent His Word and healed them” (Psalm 107:20a). There’s healing both for the body as well as the soul and spirit in daily, daily, daily reading and meditating on God’s Word!!! For potential new 100words.ca readers, you can start any time and in two years (compared to one-year plans there’s shorter readings and extra time for meditating) soak in God’s Word and experience physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual healing!!!

Jeremiah diagnosed the human heart as deceitful and desperately wicked. Is there a guaranteed healing prescription? Can this terminal heart condition be healed?

The ultimate heart healing treatment is this…Romans 10:8-10. The word “heart” is repeated 3 times in that passage.?It’s an oral medication. You take it by mouth! Speak these words out loud or even whisper them. That gets God’s Word down into our hearts. Healing and wholeness follows. Now, having ingested God’s healing medicine, let’s do as the last words of our key verses instruct us: “You,” Almighty God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, “are [our] praise”!!!

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, Your Word declares that You “inhabit the praises of [Your people!] Israel!” (Psalm 22:3b). I pray that I will learn more and more to use Scripture in my praise of You! As I do this I know that I am inhabiting the realm of Your Presence! I’m singing now the glorious hymn of praise, “I Will Praise Him!” (click here for the Messianic Jewish family (believers in Jesus), the Isaacs, singing this hymn). Let us praise God together!!! Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I’m looking forward to hearing the Isaacs in person here in Lakeland, Florida, on Sunday February 9th, at Victory Church. To any of my fellow bloggers in the area, I’ll spend time in the lobby of the church after the concert. Please say, “Hello,” and if you are a hugger, let’s have a hug!

It can be discouraging to read Jeremiah because of his prophecies of woe. I heard a preacher on the local Christian radio station say, “When God says, ‘Woe,’ it means, Whoa!” That’s horse language for STOP!!!” Good advice?

I debated whether or not to quote the Jewish historian Josephus in his description of the next destruction of Jerusalem after the one prophesied by Jeremiah. There are probably similarities in both destructions of the city which the religious and political leaders brought on themselves. When God is not wanted and when He withdraws as a result, all hell breaks loose. This quote is from 70 A.D., after thousands of Christian Jews had left Jerusalem, as they were warned in a prophecy to escape. In case you don’t want to read of such horror, I’ll put it in a post script.

Yours for ingesting God’s Word and inhabiting, as God does, the PRAISE SPACE!!!

David

P.S. Josephus, a Jew, was in Jerusalem under the protection of the future Roman Emperor Titus when he wrote, “You would have thought the hill on which the Temple stood was boiling from the bottom upwards, that everywhere was a mass of flames, that here lay a sea of blood deeper than the fire, that there were more killed than killers. You could not see a single piece of ground anywhere because it was so thickly covered with bodies, forcing the soldiers to climb over them in order to reach further victims.”

Inside the Arch of Titus in Rome, one side depicts the Roman soldiers removing the menorah, table of showbread and silver trumpets from the temple as it was destroyed in AD 70.

    I Will Praise Him,
    Words and music by Margaret J. Harris, 1898

    When I saw the cleansing fountain
    Open wide for all my sin,
    I obeyed the Spirit’s wooing,
    When He said, “Wilt thou be clean?”

    I will praise Him! I will praise Him!
    Praise the Lamb for sinners slain;
    Give Him glory, all ye people,
    For His blood can wash away each stain.

    Though the way seems straight and narrow,
    All I claimed was swept away;
    My ambitions, plans and wishes,
    At my feet in ashes lay.

    I will praise Him! I will praise Him!
    Praise the Lamb for sinners slain;
    Give Him glory, all ye people,
    For His blood can wash away each stain.

    Then God’s fire upon the altar
    Of my heart was set aflame;
    I shall never cease to praise Him
    Glory, glory, to His Name!

    I will praise Him! I will praise Him!
    Praise the Lamb for sinners slain;
    Give Him glory, all ye people!
    For His blood can wash away each stain!

    Blessed be the Name of Jesus!
    I’m so glad He took me in;
    He’s forgiven my transgressions,
    He has cleansed my heart from sin.

    I will praise Him! I will praise Him!
    Praise the Lamb, for sinners slain;
    Give Him glory; all ye people,
    For His blood can wash away each stain!

    Glory, glory to the Father!
    Glory, glory to the Son!
    Glory, glory to the Spirit!
    Glory to the Three in One!

    Enjoy the Isaacs at the Victory Church in Lakeland, Florida, Feb 9th, David and Norma-Jean! How incredible that will be!

  6. Thanks, David, Reynold and Ron, for the incredible information in today’s message, postscript and photos with captions–it led me to investigate further. Roman Emperor Domitian’s Arch of Titus in Rome celebrating the destruction of the Temple in 70 AD by his older brother, TItus, was also prophesied in Matthew 24:1-2 by Jesus. “Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came up to show Him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down.”

    The inside of the arch shows the magnificent artistry of Roman soldiers removing the menorah, table of showbread and silver trumpets from the Temple as it was destroyed in 70 AD. This arch and its artistry is one of the many examples of concrete proof for non-believers who fail to see the historical relevance of the Bible. The cave drawings in Mesopotamia and etched drawings within the pyramids in Egypt are other examples of art expressing history.

    The compared second destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans in 70 AD to the first by the Babylonians in 587 BCE as prophesied by Jeremiah (Jer 25:12-13 and 29:10-14) gives further meaning to the quote: “When God is not wanted and when He withdraws as a result, all hell breaks loose.”

    Sadly, Josephus’ explicit description instantly brought to mind the disturbing picture of dead emaciated rows of bodies of the innocent Jewish people who suffered and lost their lives in Nazi concentration camps of Auschwitz. This horror is disheartening to wrap my mind around and is evidence of the devil at work through Hitler and his regime. On-going wars in the world, especially the middle east prove the same.

    As a Christian, I chose to see that there is a hidden blessing behind every tragic situation, and the darkness eventually turning to light. I cling to the cloak of Jesus and hold to the glory of God in all things. Claiming the “Praise Space” with you, David Mainse, and all saints!

  7. A wonderful link to the Isaacs.

    Such power in The Word. Praising my Saviour all the day long! Thank you once again for your continued faithfulness Pastor David and to my fellow saints on this blog.

    Love in Jesus!!!

  8. Dear Rev. David M.
    Thank you once more this morning for your 100 words and personal prayer.
    As I read these words from .. I will praise Him,…
    I will praise Him,
    Praise The Lamb for the sinners slain,
    Give Him Glory , all ye people,
    For this can wash away each stain.
    I am so grateful to the Lord for having been taken out of darkness . From being a lost sheep to a born again child of God. The only desire of my heart is to be used by you Lord in whatever way you want me . May Your Will be done all for Your Glory in The Name Of The One Above Every Name Jesus. Amen.
    Have a blessed day everyone.
    xxxx Carole.

  9. Dear David: We are enjoying your blogs and praise the Lord for your faithfulness to the Lord over the many years; since you were our Pastor in Sudbury. We also thank the Lord for your healing miracle and pray for you daily. When reading the Scriptures today; Remember the Lords day to keep it holy – Sunday has been an open day in Canada for a long time in business and some families……..this leaves a question mark in my mind; are we failing God and His commandments today……in this regard……..
    Please pray for our family for Salvation. Thank you again……Doris

  10. How devoted Jeremiah was over the many years declaring to his beloved nation, friends and family to repent of their sins and turn from their disobedience and return to their God, who is faithful and ready to forgive.
    Thank you, Rev. Mainse for your faithfulness in declaring the will of our God through Scripture to the many nations of this world.
    For years I was brought up to believe in the one church, who claimed to interpreted the Scriptures correctly. I was brought up to believe in Acts 2 :38 as the message of Salvation. However it brought disturbance to my faith when I was hearing too much on Salvation through baptism and not enough on Salvation through the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. My spirit cried out for help and the Spirit heard my cry. “I am the way the truth and the life: No man comes to the Father, but (except) through Me.” John 14:6
    The Scripture in Romans 10:8-10 were not emphasized to me while growing up. When asked by an evanglical pastor concerning Romans 10, I was blank in my response. I am so thankful that the Holy Spirit heard my cry and that I was able to re-examine the Scriptures with a greater understanding.
    Thank you Rev. Mainse for your lessons each day as you take us through His Holy Word. I have heard since the Father of lies, who used my Shepherd’s voice in telling me these word: “you aren’t going to make it.” It shook me to my core at first and now I know it was the enemy talking to me. I have confessed with my mouth the Lord Jesus and in my heart believe that our God raised Him (Jesus our Christ) from the dead. I have been promised and guaranteed by the Holy Spirit, my salvation. Yes, I do work out my plan of Salvation with fear and trembling. but not out of doubt now out of trusting in Christ Jesus, who is the Way, the Truth and the Life. I believe baptism is our spiritual act of obedience.
    I do feel so blessed to be given a second opportunity in my spiritual life.
    Bill
