TRANSFORMED

Suggested Reading: Mark 9

This photo of Mount Hermon was taken March 19 from about 45 Kilometres south of the mountain and nine kilometres north of the Sea of Galilee. I was standing at an elevated point in Meshushim Stream Nature Reserve. A peak in this area rises to 2,236 m (7,336 ft) and is the highest elevation in Israeli-controlled territory. The Hermon range covers an area of about 1000 square km, of which about 70 are under Israeli control. This mountain range is shared by Lebanon and Syria. The Jordan River's main source of water comes from the melted snow off of Mount Hermon.

Key Verse: Mark 9:7

And a cloud came and overshadowed them; and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!”

Why Peter, James and John? Did Jesus show favouritism? God always responds according to our level of committment. Do we want to see Jesus in new ways? Then ask God for a greater desire for Him. Why Moses and Elijah? Jesus had tried again and again to share His coming death with His disciples, but they didn’t get it. Moses and Elijah were two servants of the Lord who, at one point in their life, had become so discouraged that they asked God that they would die. (Numbers 11:15 and 1 Kings 19:4). Perhaps they were the only human beings who could begin to understand Jesus’ feelings as He faced death. Yes, Jesus was 100% human, and this record establishes that Jesus is also 100% God. The voice of God the Father burned its way into the memories of the three disciples. Later in the chapter we learn that “fasting and prayer” is another evidence of our level of fervency. Why be fervent? One reason is because of the reality of “hell fire” (9:43,47). There’s a lost world that needs Jesus before it’s too late.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, like Peter, James and John, I’m sticking close to You. May I too hear the voice of the Father, and may I fast and pray so that I may see Your mighty works. Amen and Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

This past Monday, Norma-Jean and I travelled to an old-fashioned Camp Meeting at Cobourg, Ontario. It was there at the altar, one night in 1953, that God made it crystal clear to me that I was called by Him into the full-time ministry of His Church. I had been praying for some time that God would do me the great honour of giving me such a call. I wanted with all my heart to spend my life working as an ordained minister of Christ. That summer I had spent weekends helping Bob Johnson plant a new congregation in the village of Madoc, Ontario. Bob’s picture was on our High School wall as having qualified for several scholarships, yet here he was, sleeping on the floor of a little apartment, because he did not have the money to buy a bed. That example of sacrifice increased my desire to make the same committment as Bob. If I had been offered a comfortable salary, a nice house and an established pulpit, I don’t think, as a teenager, that I would’ve been interested in the ministry.

Yours for a high level of fervency in hearing from God and in serving Him,

David

  1. Lord, help us to become fervent in our walk with you. Help us to overcome any lack of sight so that we may see clearly what you would have us do in your name today. By your word and through prayer may we have greater knowledge, wisdom and insight, that we might grow in relationship with you today. We give thanks for David and Norma Jean and for all souls at Crossroads for the ministry and labour shown through the years; we pray for the continuation, growth and strength of this ministry as they reach out to this lost world with your word of truth in love. We also continue to pray for David’s health, we trust you are continuing to do a mighty work in and through his life. We give thanks for David and for his continued ministry. Bless him today. We pray in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.

  2. I am praying in agreement with Scott and Lianne. Thank you Lord for this ministry, Love and God Bless You in Jesus name.

  3. I also agree in prayer with the above comments. Thank you and Norma Jean and all of the staff for your ministry to me and my family. God bless you today.

  5. I very much enjoy reading your daily blog and especially your personal comments. However, for some reason, your message is much wider than the computer screen and I have to keep shifting it over to read it all. This is only happening with yours so I am wondering if there is some way your spacing could be reduced so your message fits on the screen. It may be a problem for others as well so I felt I should mention it to you. I hope and pray that your health is holding up. You have been such a blessing to so many of us.

  6. In Agreement….with all of the reply’s… as we focus our focus on Jesus…..it is all about you Lord….Our steps are not our own…as you lead & guide us ..we have you in Full…as we continue to grow in Love & Trust…we make a choice to get to know you more….through your written word….A Hunger for More….
Thank you David for the insight and your personal 100 words….Have a wonderful Day as we journey towards Home…..

  7. Amen and amen to Scott’s prayer, and all the others who agreed. David, you have been a blessing for many years in your life and with your ministry; you continue to be a blessing regardless of the health challenges you are facing. Even in this, you are leading the way for those of us living with varying and ongoing degrees of health issues. You are not ‘under the circumstances’ but have risen above them! Praise the Lord for His faithfulness! His mercies are new every morning!

  8. I love your comments and the pictures are fantastik….I hope you are making this into a book for later on…
Bless you and Reynold and your words from the Lord….

  9. Drove out to a favorite camp ground to go camping for a few days, but found there was, “no room left at the Inn!”. Recalled your blog yesterday and thought, “give thanks in ALL circumstances” and so I have. David, I appreciate how you humbly self-disclose, instead of telling others how to think and do … it is truly Christ-centred and not power driven.

  10. Thank you for these words today, Dear David. They were just what I needed!! Amen to the prayer of Scott…may your health be blessed continually…it is already…By His Stripes We Are Healed! Thank you, Jesus!

  11. I’m behind a few days, but am hoping to catch up! Continued reading in Mark while on holidays at a rustic cottage with no hydro, and I find I’m not as far behind as I thought! Am really looking forward to going to Darien Lake Theme Park in New York for the next 4 days to the Kingdom Bound Christian Christian Festival… going with my 2 boys aged 8 and 12, while my husband has to return to work! I’m also in agreement with the prayers listed, and am hoping and praying that the worship, fellowship and teaching at Kingdom Bound will lead all 3 of us closer to Jesus! I appreciate being part of this group that follows David’s leadership in following after our Lord…. it’s encouraging and helpful! Christine
