FOLLOW ME

Suggested Reading: Mark 1

This is the synagogue in Capernaum, the town where Jesus lived and taught. This late fourth Century A.D. "White Synagogue" was built upon the remains of the earlier "Synagogue of Jesus."

Key Verse: Mark 1:17

Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”

The word “immediately” is repeated seven times here. Do you think that God is seeking our attention and wants to motivate us to ACTION? From the moment Simon (Peter), Andrew, James and John met Jesus, their priorities were radically changed. Number one is Jesus! And Jesus, Himself, takes on the job of MAKING these fishermen “fishers of MEN.” “IMMEDIATELY they left their nets and followed HIM” (Mark 1:18). WWJD, “What Would Jesus Do?” became most important to them. Jesus delivered a man from an unclean spirit; He emphasized Peter’s family as a priority by healing his mother-in-law; Jesus healed people and cast out demons; Jesus rose early to pray privately; Jesus preached; Jesus recognized the role of the Jewish priest, and much more. Follow Him and He makes us all He desires us to become.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, You promised to “make me” as long as I follow You. Here I am, Your follower. By reading this blog daily, I’m following Your Word and Your work. I pray that You will live in me and work through me today. There are immediate needs all around me. Please help me not to procrastinate but to act today with all the love and power with which You are loving and acting. I pray this in Your Name, Jesus. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I’m receiving feedback from blog readers that the two-year program of reading through the Bible is working so far. Many have said that they’ve tried a one-year program, but found they failed to comphrehend well what they were reading. The two-year plan allows me to assimilate (make part of myself) God’s thoughts as expressed in His Words. One of the advantages is that anyone can start on any day and complete the Bible reading two years from that day. I find that by moving from Matthew to Genesis to Mark and back and forth from the Greek Scriptures to the Hebrew Scriptures brings not only variety but balance.

“Immediately” speaks to me. I’m 76 on Aug 13th, and at 18, while a public school teacher, I began to preach. Eventually, by following Jesus, a new congregation was planted in the Chalk River, Deep River area. That Church is thriving today. I simply could not wait ’til after my theological education to start preaching. The opportunity was there and following Jesus means stepping out of my comfort zone and working for Him.

Yours for WWJD and action “immediately!”

David

  1. Thank you Brother David, for your posting today it has encouraged me to follow the Lord Jesus closer. I also love the beautiful pictures by Renold, God Bless you.

    • Hi David . Two suggestions . Every computer I seem to go on , your blog doesn’t fit on the screen ? Too big . Also , can you make it easier to reply ? Perhaps just be able to press a button after your blog ? When your old , like I am , you gotta keep it simple . Thanks , God Bless

  2. David, your enthusiasm for the gospel is infectious and comes through loud and clear!!! Don’t ever change! It’s the zeal for the gospel and the passion for God’s word that is missing in many a church today. If the leaders in our churches are merely ‘going through the motions’ to ‘get through the day’ with a gospel of ‘form criticism’ or dead repetitious liturgy, then is it any wonder why there are so many churches barely hanging in there. I know I’m referring to the ‘church’ as an organization or as a building in this sense; praise God that He looks at the heart of the believer which ‘truly’ constitutes the body of the church universal. Unlike the gospel of Matthew, Mark is brief and to the point. Messiah has come into the world to call people to repent, believe in the good news, be baptised, be healed and to herald-in a new day of the Kingdom of God through Jesus Christ. A message still very relevant to our culture today.

  3. David
Its important for all not to give up learning and having that passion for the love of God
and act when and where he wants us. I admit its not easy living in the world around me but I have to continue to focus my attention on him too
Keep up the great work David !

  4. Good morning David,
Thank you for your daily writings. You are so good at keeping the main
thing the main thing. The word “immediately” says to me, I need to
obey the voice of God right away before the devil talks me out of it.
Praying for you and your family.
Thank you for being available to God.

  5. While the word “immediate” was mentioned seven times, Mark wasted no time himself off the start to write about the life of Christ in his first chapter. It is compelling to see how action oriented and purpose driven Jesus was. Thus, others gravitated to his energy and message. WWJD. The terms “unclean spirits” and “demons” often seem used by zealous religious eccentrics today, but one wonders, given the mass shootings recently in Canada, U.S. and around the world.

  6. Dear Mr. Mainse,
Your teaching techniques are inspirational and alive. Reading the word of God every morning via your blog is motivating.
Allowing myself to wait in trying times and ask myself What Would Jesus Do helps me become what He wants me to be.

    God Bless You.

    Diane 🙂
    Love your Blog

    • I love these pictures, besuace through them I see LOVE,HOPE, TRUTH and EVERLASTING LIFE WITH MY SAVIOR. The pictures of his CRUCIFICTION tells me that if he could endour all the pain and humiliation, then so can I. You are not worshiping the pics, but seeing what our LORD went through for all of us. We were made in HIS IMAGE and COLOR HAS NO MEANING IN HIS EYES. I am Native American and in our language that He gave us, HE is Wanka Tanka, The Great Spirit, Our Creator. All he wants EVERYONE to do is LOVE ONE ANOTHER and TELL OTHERS ABOUT HIM. Thank you Great Spirit for your Unmerciful Treatment, I am waiting for you to return. God Bless Everyone.

  7. Good morning David…. i have done for many years the ( Daily Walk Bible ) which is excellent …a First read, a new read, and a psalm, and a proverb, so as to not get dicouraged with all from the old test first…and it works well…but this with you is Awesome..taking the two years…God Willing…. and hearing your input as the Holy Spirit leads….Thank you for your prayers for your readers ..Your Time….and your Love for Our Lord..as we journey together…Heading Home…. Sending Blessings to you and your Family Today..as always….Diane..

  8. Good morning David! What would Jesus do? Great words to apply to ones everyday life, every situation, decision and relationship.
You are a wonderful blessing David and I give thanks for your sensitivity to the Spirits leading in creating this blog and plan of walking through the Bible. There are many Bible study plans ‘out there’ but this one gives one time to really meditate on a passage, and your own words bring added enlightenment. Thank you for your faithfulness & obedience all these years of ministry!

  9. In Jesus we “win” Immediately. “What’s Important Now?” ” We WIN”!! Being faithful to Him, success takes care of itself. It is important to remember all God has done through the love, the mercy and answered prayers that carried us here today. Remember God parted the Red Sea and delivered the Israelites from their oppressors. This same Lord, helping, healing, is with us NOW and in the future, and that means all of eternity. With Him, all things are possible! His faithful Love abides forever!

  10. Dear David: I have followed your program of 100 Huntley Street since 1975. I became a Christian on January 22. 1975. I have read the Bible many times since then and have read a daily through one year version and have adjusted many tranlations to be read that way too. I love Jesus so much ! I was in the hospital last December and God did miracles that even the docters and nurses had to admit. I was told I have Diebetes and my sugar was 40.3. God has done so many miracles in my life and I want to thank Him for people like you who have stayed steadfast in Him. I only want to serve Him. I couldn’t hardly see from cateracts the last three months but on July 5, 2012 I had an operation and God returned my eyesight to my right eye. I can’t seem to read enough of His Word now and I am so gratfull that I can see again. My other eye will be donw on August 16 and I would appreciate your prayers. God richly bless you and heal you too.

  11. I have missed the last three or four days of your blog. I did subscribe and have enjoyed your messages and the picture that you send too. I don’t know what happened that it no longer comes to me. I do want to get it. I hope that the problem can be resolved. Than you so much and God bless you and your ministry.

  12. Mr. Mainse,
May I give some insight regarding some bloggers not receiving your daily blog … Some software will add e-mails to the Blocked Senders List or Trash/Junk List or Folder… depending on the program.
So the Bloggers might check Their Blocked Senders List or Trash/Junk Folder to find and remove the welcoming e-mail from Their Blocked List.

    Yours Humbly,

    Diane 🙂

  13. Thank you so much, David, for 100 words. I am enjoying them very much. Just one problem, I have subscribed to your blog but am not receiving it on my email. Can you tell me what I’ve done wrong?
Thank you and may God continue to bless you abundantly.

  14. Hello David,
